"The French should have fanions for the second and third battalions, not tricolours. The cavalry should have guidons not hulking great infantry flags !"
I got this off a Napoleonic Facebook group with regard to the game trailer.

Re: Some feedback on incorrect flags
First off, I am wholly responsible for the flag representations and designs within SOWWL.
In regard to the French flags my research backed up what proved to be my main resource for the flags in question. This source is also acknowledged in the manual, it is here:
http://www.warflag.com/napflags/html/flags.htm
Besides no mention of fanions and guidons it provides pictured examples of the French flags representative of the 1815 campaign. I followed these guidelines to the best of my ability.
In fact the only dispute regarding the nature of these flags had to do with fringe:

Now, what I did take liberties with was scale, so the cavalry flags are larger than the indicated scale for purposes of gameplay since smaller flags are much harder to select with fast moving cavalry. Still, they are considerably smaller than the infantry, but obviously not small enough to avoid "hulking" connotations. In 1815 after Napoleons return the Regiments received new flags and eagles at a rate of one per Regiment. The flags now measured 120cm square and were of a much more simple design. Sources vary as to whether the French 1815 pattern flags possessed a fringe. Most regiments displayed the same battle honours as for the 1812 pattern and the gold-embroidered tricolour cravat was still attached immediately below the eagle.

Bugles & Flags Gettysburg - Toolbar, Flags, Scenarios, and More...
Re: Some feedback on incorrect flags
Not to worry Reb. The flags are even better than the Gettysburg flags, if that is possible. The colors are very rich and the waving perfect. The nebobs and nickpickers will always be present. Most of them would find fault with the Savior himself. I may be overstating a bit but you know where I stand on this terrific new game. BZ26V

Re: Some feedback on incorrect flags
What I noticed about the flags is how much crisper and clearer they are, you have used bigger texture files I imagine. Even battle honours on them are readable.
Some work needs doing on the Hanoverian and some Allied command flags as my post elsewhere mentioned. These are compete fiction.
However the OP is correct. While your source is also correct Reb
The regiments in 1815 were issued those simpler design flags but only the first battalion carried them, with the regimental eagle, the less senior battalions carried the much simpler guidions.
Its possible some language confusion has crept in here as ACW regiments and battalions (for infantry) were the same thing - each regiment had 1 battalion - while in Napoleon's time a regiment was often made up of several battalions (up to six in the French 1812 army, but usually 3 to 4).
While you can have some scaling compromises made in order to provide a big enough hotspot for the player to click on to select the unit, its also certainly possible to have a large hotspot overlaid on a small flag graphic as the SoW:GB Blenheim mod shows. I would prefer the latter option so the flags stay in scale.
