Trees and weird shimmering grass

When I start the game, and start a scenario, the top of the screen looks like shimmering heatwaves and trees and when I remove the trees totally it goes away. Do you know how I can do that without removing the trees totally?

Are you using win 8? There have been some compatibility issues and we recommend people run it in Win 7 compatibility mode as administrator.

Edit - just a question - there is smoke over the trees in scenario 1 I think, beside Hougoumont. Could that be what you are seeing? I think you can turn it off using the 't' key too. get a screenshot if you can - f4 and it gets dumped in your Documents/SOWWl folder.
