Line of Sight Battles

Post by MacDonald »

Would it be possible to change the distance that armies start from each other in line of sight battles?

I feel like the armies start too close together, there is barely any room or time to get your men into formation before the enemy is on you in a big lump. It feels a little bit too 'gamey' and there is no manoeuvre at all.

That is the intention of LOS batles - troops start in line of sight from each other. Other battle types like hunt them down start with troops widely seperated and you have no idea where the enemy are.

I agree with MacDonald. I have had some 'line of sight' battles with opposing troops inter-mingled from the very start, and in general would rather they were far enough away from each other for a bit more deployment.

Aye, I totally understand, I just think they are a little too close. It just seems weird that these two huge forces would march into spitting distance of each other in column, then have no room to get into formation.

Just choose hunt them down or attack/defend battles in the sandbox screen?

I understand what you're saying - but I agree with the OP, it's too close currently, whilst a hunt them down battle takes a long time. A happy medium would be appreciated.

Attack and defend spawns the armies quite a bit closer than hunt them down, those are the medium distance battles.

Unfortunately choosing to avoid LoS battles isn't possible in the sandbox campaign.

I agree that the distance should be greater in general for LoS battles. If the intent is to show two armies blundering into one another, this should be in road column, with some cavalry element in the lead (if available).

I'd actually prefer an "Always Hunt them Down" battle toggle for the campaign. It better simulates the aftermath of two scouting parties running into one another, with the bulk of the two forces attempting to come to grips.

Ah - i see what this is about, sorry I thought this was sandbox battle discussion.

The battles for sandbox campaign are decided like this

1. On the road - Line of sight represents a meeting engagement. Neither side is ready, this is a fight for survival. This shows it beenfits you to have your troops waiting in a prepared location like a town with forts, etc.
2.If you are in a town you get attack/defend, depending on where you were and where the enemy was. If it is a big big battle, it defaults to hunt them down so the troops dont overlap.

I think some of the attack/defend/LOS alternate between hunt them down too, but don't quote me on that.

Thanks for the answers. Is the distance for LoS battles mod-able once the SDK comes out?
