Download Woes

Post by Ingles of the 57th »

Oh Dear,

3.00 am in the morning. I have just sat 2 hours on a freezing night downloading SOWW (Yes, We do get freezing nights in Africa)

The file is supposed to be 512 MB but my download terminated with a 'part file' of 526 MB which of course was unuseable. Most frustrating.

I guess I must try again tomorrow night. I have informed Matrix but I badly need cheering up !! Not sure Whisky works at this time of the morning.

Looks like that 3 am zombie made you write you're digits wrong, 526? ...when you only need 512  Still, that would be strange and probably a bad download also. Believe me, those satellite providers are terrible here also...Hughes Net suks big time, ripped me off lying that it was state of the art, so I'm back to DSL. Slow, but it's a heck of a lot better than satellite.

Good luck on this our friend, you always pull these things off. Gonna have to get a 57th Inf mod done for ya, you deserve it having to deal with archaic technology while maintaining your loyalty to NSD productions.

After a couple of revivers last night, it dawned upon me that I had had troubles in the past downloading large files satisfactorily via Firefox.

I recall that I subsequently acquired a good download program recommended by someone on the forum, Mike Slaunwaite probably (Have I got the spelling right ).

Unfortunately the program did not survive a new computer and upgrade to windows 7.

Rather than rely upon Google, can I ask if anyone has a recommendation ?

Hi Reb Bugler,

Thanks for the reply. No it really was 526 even though the file was incomplete. Still 526 after the whisky. I thought it strange too.

Satellite is my only option here ........ don't even have a landline out here in the bondooks. Lovely views, lovely air, can afford a staff of seven people to cushion my old age ..... but no communications.

Funny you should mention the old 57th. I was thinking only yesterday of infuriating the historical purists and slipping the regiment somewhere into one of the Waterloo Brigades. Even though I gather it was in the West Indies at the time.

Very Best regards,

p.s. Definitely no concubines amongst the seven staff !!

Ingles of the 57th - I thought that if you purchased the Box-Edition you were also allowed to download the game.

This way you would have the box-edition mailed to you, I'm guessing there, but one of the Team-Members should have an answer to that!

I just remember. It was 'Free Download Manager' that Mike recommended.

Better still, I found a working version still lurking amongst the sludge at the bottom of Windows 7.

Will use it tonight and hope to be on the field in support tomorrow.'Up Guards and at them !'

Glory Hallelujah

Finally got a good install file loaded down at 2.45 AM this morning. The Download Manager worked fine ..... Firefox is proven quite useless for large files.

All seemed OK except I got a lockup the first time I invoked the Modification Screen.

Will give it a full workout tomorrow morning (still two hours away) when I have recovered with coffee and a good breakfast.

Thanks to all who offered help including Matrix.
