MP Bad Frame In Packet Error

Post by Marching Thru Georgia »

We have been having a number of aborted MP HITS games with the infamous Bad Frame In Packet error that plagued early versions of SOWGB. Often, at the same time or 1 second before the crash, the log file will record the following: BAD FORMATION ID: 726940162. What does this mean and how do we avoid the problem?
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.

The error is when the game don't find a formation valid for the index of formation; in this case the index is 726940162 which is very likely a uninitialized int variable; this means that probably the field of formation called in the modded unitglobal.csv is without a value or with a spelling error and the game cannot initialize the index correctly because nothing is found.

Because the AI can use in autonomy also for brigades level line, fight, march, assault formations the first thing to check is that at this level they're always filled and the name is correct. The second step is to test manually all the formations in single and see if one of them is not formed after the call via button.
