Hi, I recently stumbled across this old game in my mod file. I started it up and played a full single player game. I beat the British;) The next time I played the game, I hit Sandbox on the menu screen and the game crashed. I tried restarting the game and it continued to happen. It has great graphics, portraits and other details I like. I just have to figure out what the heck is going on. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Well it isn't very realistic if you beat the British!...Then again Prestonpans ouch! lol

I think I remember POM doing this you need to check the error log you can find this by going to the SOWGB games folder structure on your computer and there should be a folder titled "Work" open this and then click on the Text file entitled "SOWGB" this should tell you where the error occurred you can also post the log here on the forum and I'm sure one of the guys can help. :)

However, If I remember the sprites for that mod were not packed fully (Not sure if POM fully finished it - I agree with you the sprites are fantastic!) so rather than a error it may just be the frame rate hitting the limits of your graphic card on your PC/Laptop.

Hi 9thBtnMOS.

I never released the mod as it was always a little unstable, and Zeke is right the sprites aren't packed. I reloaded the mod and soon remembered that you pretty much have to come out of the game each time before running another battle.

It was my first mod and thankfully I do things a little better now. If you can post the SOWGB text file then I can have a look, but again Zeke may be right about the file memory, it's an error I've had with this mod. I did manage to get it to work 3 out of 4 times today.

Thanks for the replies. Here is a copy of the error log. I would love to get this game to play reliably to a point where I can mod some "what if" OB's. I know its an older mod but you have done a great job with this POM. Thank you.

I don't have the mod but that looks a real mess. I see your game is loading <Culloden_Mod> as well as <Fontenoy_Mod_II>. Do you intend to load both?

Have you got an extra folder in either mod? So it reads Norbsoft\...\Culloden_Mod\Culloden_Mod\...

or

Norbsoft\...\Fontenoy_Mod_II\Fontenoy_Mod_II\...

If so drag and drop everything nested under the 2nd level folder into the 1st level one and then delete the spare (now empty) folder. This seems to be a common fault when people unpack mods from Winzip or Winrar.

Here is the latest error log. I was just playing a game for about 20 min, then it crashed. This error report is a little cleaner. I may have had Fontenoy and Culloden mods playing together in the last post. Thanks Saddletank, I was not aware of the combined mods.

That doesn't look a whole lot better. The log file still says you are running both the Culloden and Fontenoy mods but I did say before that since I don't have the Culloden mod, it may be that it *needs* the Fontenoy mod as a base (it might use the British sprites, guns and generals from Fontenoy - or the flags... I just don't know.)

That looks like an error in the OOB. I can't say for certain without seeing it though.

BTW in the SoW logfile an ERROR is fatal and will crash the game. A WARNING is simply a notification of a non-fatal problem, the game will still run but you may lack some features from the map such as scenery.

Not certain about this one. It might be that the OOB is putting artillery pieces direct into infantry brigades and not having the guns formed into batteries under a brigade level battery commander. I am not 100% sure though. I know the Blenheim Mod uses battalion guns within infantry brigades so the game can handle it, but here it looks like some instructions (possibly in drills.csv) are lacking.

Unfortunately without seeing the mod itself I can't help you much more. Could it be uploaded somewhere for me to grab? Dropbox maybe?

The OOB is messed up - You shouldn't have any more than ( Two ) top Commanders showing.

Are You sure that this Mod doesn't have a Scenario that goes with it and not designed for Open Play?

I didn't notice that two of the "top commanders" are the couriers, so this means the courier unit listed last in the OOB has the wrong organisation numbers (the six numbers after the unit name and formation name). These six numbers should place the courier as the C-in-C of its own separate corps.

Assuming that both the Government and Jacobite forces are organised into a single corps, change the Government courier numbers into:

1 1 2 0 0 0

And the Jacobite courier to:

2 1 2 0 0 0

Hi 9thBtnMOS.

Here's an updated oob which removes the "Albemarl" error, and a new unitgfx which should get rid of the sprite error, which would cause a crash.

As the guys have said the other errors won't cause the game to crash, they are just down to my inexperience when I did the mod. You will get crashes on loading, now and again, as there are far too many animation frames and none of them are packed. This kills the memory limits.

I've also added my SOWGB document so you can compare.
