maps

Post by rebeltim »

Can you guys say if there will be multiple maps for different locations for this game or will it be for one large area?

Keep us informed with updates, we can't wait. :cheer:

There will be multiple maps. You just can't get into the historic detail that we require unless we break things up.

I think I'd rather have several maps with more detail than one map with less detail. If the game being developed is on a battlefield which the player is fairly familiar, it will be a big plus while playing a scenario to be able to recognize more detail in the terrain, woods/crop/field/fence patterns, and battlefield landmarks.

If the game is any measure improved (and already we can be fairly certain it will be) over and above TC2M it surely will be immensely enjoyed by those who play it.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

sounds great. I am self-teaching mapmaking using PR v6, which means it'll take me a year to make a map. If I begin making one for TC2M, could I hope for portability of any aspects (heightfield, grayscale, etc.) to ARW?

Much of what I created for War3D will remain for War3D II, things that I thought that I could do better I redesigned. If something worked, I didn't reinvent the wheel. My first version was written for TV3D engine, so much of that design has been kept, even though I ported back to PR. I doubt that maps will be open to modders on the first release. Most of the map concepts are the same, but I have had to completely rewrite much of the PR source to do what we wanted, so some of the new map stuff is completely new conceptually.
