Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

Hancock Biography

Post by Joshua l.Chamberlain »

Is there any Hancock biographies out there that talk in detail about Hancock's battles during the civil war and so on.

Try David Jordan's excellent biography, Winfield Scott Hancock: A Soldier's Life. I also found this on Google: Great Commanders: General Hancock. The latter is an entirely digitized book -- about 300 pages -- originally published in 1894, and has three chapters on Gettysburg alone. It is written in the style of the late 19th century, so you may find it a bit tedious.

You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

I'd be careful about this one. It looks to have been written in time for Hancock's 1880 presidential bid (and conveniently contains a biography of Hancock's running mate, William Hayden English). We all know how "accurate" campaign biographies can be, right?

You might also find Hancock's report from the Battle of Gettysburg interesting.
