I have absolutely no experience with any on-line multiplayer, so please forgive me for a simple question. What kind of connection will folks need to keep up with all the millions of game calculations ? Or does the server do all the work (sort of like a file-server on a large WAN) and the players' connections only keep up with the output ?

Of course cable modems & high-speed DSL's will be safe, but do you think some Wi-Fi's or even 56K dial-up modems can keep up ?

I doubt a modem would keep up, but I'm not sure. I've made it as quick as possible and no, not every calculation is sent across the wire. I plan on having an MP demo, so that people will be able to see whether or not they can run it.

No, of course not :( I wish I knew better. Problem is that we are waiting on a couple of things to get into the main game testing. We have to test the AI once we have the pieces in place. Once we are done with the AI, then we can get to Multi.

Got another question about multiplayer or open play, I guess it pertains to both.

How are you guys going to balance out the difference in strength? Confederate Corps and Divisions were much larger than Union Corps and Divisions, but the Union had more of each. How is that going to be balance out or are you just going to fight Division against Division etc...

I hope there is no attempt to balance. Let them fight it out toe to toe with whatever troops they have available and let the better tactician win. Handicapping system?? We don't need no stinking handicap system!

there has to be some sort of balance.

but only in manpower.

it would be impossbile to win, with 10 000 men agaisnt 30 000

I know I've tried, the rebs just overrun you. no tactics needed, just though everything you got and you win, has to be some way of balancing manpower, so they atleast have somewhat equal number of men

Now that you mention it, I do seem to remember times playing open play in TC2M when the hordes of rebs seemed to be neverending. One wave after another after another.
