Sounds like you're not activating the second objective that appears about half way through on the hill. But LP told you about it earlier in this thread, so other than that...?

You don't need to bring in the extra troops on the hill, just put up a good fight and retreat successfully when the first objective ends. The second objective, uncontested :whistle: , then can give you your Major Victory points. :)

I assume the Hill objective activates automatically after the Knoll disappears ? Or do I need a brigade or Batt left there at the beginning of the game ? Is the Hill attacked later in the game ?

When the Knoll objective disappears where do I need to send my remaining troops ? To retreat is to lose them - right ?

Just finished a round with a 3500. Completely routed the Knoll rebs north up the road and had tons of guns and troops on this objective spot.

What does TC mean - excuse my ignorance.

When the second objective appears, you must move a regiment to it for activation. ..."uncontested"

TC=Take Control

Yeah, the uncontested, second objective sometimes fools folks, because of it's remote and abstract nature.

"Finally" a 4350 on #5 and on to 14. Basically took all but one brigade from the Hill right up the middle of the Knoll and left the right flank unprotected. Took the left flank quickly and then swung over to the right after the rebs began to congregate but before they had overwhelming numbers. Never did retreat or back off the Knoll but had the brigade on the Hill to gather the points.
Thanks everyone for the tips. Frustrating battle but part of the learning curve I guess.

Excellent, congrats. In our historic scenarios, you will find that if it was a tough fight for the historical commander, it'll definitely be a tough fight for you.

Guess I'm still confused as to how the objectives actually work. Once they show up i position my top commander below it and after the timer runs out generally get a 100 points. What I dont understand is why after the timer runs out you can click on the commander again and get another 100 points. And can continue doing that if that's all you did. Doesnt seem to matter how many troops or what else is going on it always does the same thing.

Objectives continue to give you points every minute. Unless they are a waypoint timer, for which there is one of those in GB02 and in GB13. Waypoint timers only need to be held for one minute then they disappear. The scenario designer can also set the OBJ's to give points at any time interval, but 1 minute is the typical setting.

It does matter actually. You need to have a commander and the required number of men in the objective radius to hold it. Note: Men from other units not under your command can also count and will still give your commander the points.

Once again I thank you for your quick reply. Greens defense of Culp's Hill is great. Learned to use the carrier option and hold on to a 5100. Can only imagine what went through his mind when he saw that Division coming at him. Must admit, I was always interested in the Civil War but having this game gives one a mch better grasp of the Commanders delima's and military tactical expertice than any book could do.
A great educational game along with being very well developed and supported. You've hit a home run sir.
