What I experience is the opposite, the message window takes presidence over what I was trying to click, each and every time until the window is closed out. Game play stops of course while window is on. Once closed out I can then start clicking again, but with a slight delay, most of the time it does not effect what I was trying to do, however it does sometimes. The delay would be cause the curser is at the close out button, then I have to move the curser down to the unit when play restarts.

Perhaps an easy way to build the signal corps into the system is to increase the command and control rating of the generals who have coverage of the battlefield map spotted by signal corps units. I like the idea of having separate signal corps units with visual LOS ring showing the coverage from each position. A function key could be dedicated to LOS from each spot that a signal officer could occupy.

Tall buildings that would qualify as signal points could be highlighted on the LOS function map by showing as being visible points from other high observation areas.

BTW, this was a great post Gfran. I knew that McClellan was a fanatic about being in telegraph communication with all of his units during the Peninsula campaign. I suppose that if you move as slow as he did you could become obsessive about some things. McClellan preferred to "manage" a battle from a very safe distance from hostile fire, which made the telegraph a necessity for him. McClellan's reliance on the telegraph also spooked him into ordering retreats from perceived threats and to override the generals who actually had eyes on the battle.
