don...where did you find a "Mexican war" version? and, I have tons of Mods myself, but the two that seem to lead to my crashes are bugels & flags and penn campaign 1862

All I can think of is that Win 8 is bigoted toward those Damned Red Flags... :woohoo:

John,
Looking at the posts from Zeke on his Mods, he mentions 2 things :
1) Also ensure that in the mod section you have activated Bugles and Flags first then my mod afterwards ...It really should work fine
2) Very Important: when not playing the campaign please deselect the MOD in the Modifications section
Just double checking .....

Well, I gave it my best shot with this thread when Win 8 came out:
http://www.norbsoftdev.net/forum/off-to ... t=30#53283
Bottom line, Win 8 was developed to accommodate tablets and portable devices, Win 7 64 bit is the best, by far, operating system for PC gaming.

again...it seems that I can play "ok" IF I turn off all the MODS that I like...but that also takes away a lot of the fun; these MODS are great, and really add to the game...

Bummer that B&F crashes with Win 8, couple of questions:
1) Does it only crash with the Pen. Campaign mod activated
2) Does it still crash when you start it up again from the place it crashed using autosave; i.e., setting autosave to one minute in the options allows users to restart a game that crashes from basically that same crash point
Only thing that I can think of that may differentiate B&F from other mods, and the stock game, is the use of 4096 sized graphics files...this is done to get better performance considering the amount of flags displayed. I know for a fact that older graphics cards can't handle this size, the flags will appear broken up and distorted. Maybe the Win 8 ARM architecture is having trouble with large graphics sheets, but I'm just guessing.

- not sure about crashing with JUST Penn 1862; maybe will have to test that...
- never tried re-starting (with auto-save at 1 min)...but many times i'm also in the lobby playing/hosting, and when I "crash" everyone's game comes to an end

Autosave only works with SP play, furthermore, since you're obviously dealing with MP issues, I have heard of issues with MP play using mods among Win 8 users. So it's not just B&F. I really appreciate your zeal for B&F, wish I could do something to help out, but Win 8 has caused some unexpected issues that we at SOW HQ can't address since we're now working on the next generation engine due to be released by the middle of next year, probably just in time for Win 9 snafus.

Look under Index>mods>TWI 1836-Testing.Crikey developed it. There are 2 scenarios that can be played from the Mexican or Texan side. Since the mod has no maps, you'll have to pick one from sandbox. I like the "Kansas" map for these scenes. Speaking of maps, when you go the map, it'll be extra large & you won't be able to get rid of it the normal way, so just hit "escape" & it will take you back to the action.
