SOWGB SDK v1.0

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Do I alter the OOB the scenaroio refers to at the "Master" line...and if so where do I find it and how do I make sure the scenario uses it?
Correct.

In the OOBs folder. Add both as a mod.

Thanks for getting back. I'm still missing something.

I want to try "Three times is not a charm" with some oob mods... troop numbers and weapons.

I've altered the excell in the SDK oob Jackson 1st Day, and renamed it, just adding .mod.csv at the end. I've altered the master line at the start of the "scenario" folder in the SDK copy ( although I see this already has troop numbers, but no weapon types.) to the renamed oob as above. I've copied both to the main game directory, scenarios folder in "work", and "Three times etc mod"appears in "user scenarios", but runs with the original oob. I put the modded oob file in the folder for "Three tmes....mod".

I'm missing how to get the renamed scenario to run the modded oob. I'm sure its something simple.

There seems to be a complication beyond the situation in the old game, where the scenario oob was in the folder and you just alterted and saved it, replacing the original. It seems more complex now.

If you have a minute I'd be grateful.

Many thanks.

Study the folder structure of my Bugles and Flags mod. Make a similar structure for your mod, including just the files and folders you need. The structure must line up correctly.

Hmm,

Thanks rebBugler, but I feel I.m getting out my depth here.

In the old game it was quite easy to open a copy stock scenario and alter the oob excell sheet. Also I could mod an oob and put it in the old Open Play directory, and it would appear.

All I want to do here is play the jackson day one fiction with a modified rebel oob....numbers and weapons. Is there an easy way to do this?

In the scenario folder there is an excell sheet with units, strengths etc, but no weapons input. The first "Master" line seems to refer to an oob the scenario uses, but the spreadsheet also seems to carry a list of units, strengths etc, as I said above.

I am asking if there is a straightforward way to mod the scenario as I intend?

Any info gratefully received.

Dangit Son, makin' me spoonfeedya. :woohoo:

Make a folder called Jackson. Open it. Make 2 folders called Scenarios and OOBs. Place the modified oob file in the oob folder. Place the renamed scenario in the scenarios folder. Place the Jackson folder in the mods folder. Open game. Go to Modifications and check the Jackson mod. Select Use Selected Mods. Go to User Scenarios. Select your scenario. PLAY

This is straight forward the SOW way. B)

Thank you RebBugler.

I thought "Dangit Son ( I'm 56)......spoonfeedya..." was harsh. Tough love in the rarified world of expert modders obviously.

Apologies,

If necessary, explaining things in detail is part of my responsibilities in being a Q & A team member. Even applying jest, I was in error, I'll avoid such an approach in the future.

Did I at least get the job done for you, or is more detail needed?

I have been struggling on and off with a similar situation....

I am attempting to take an existing OOB and make some changes (modest at first, just delete a brigade from each side of an OOB..... and if I ever get that done ok, alter some settings in the OOB such as the number of rounds available. All of this in an attempt to get an OOB working.

So far I have taken the OOB_SB_Sample1 OOB and deleted the cavalry. Then I saved the new OOB as OOB_SB_Brickyard. I created a mod folder "Brickyard" with OOB folder "OOBs" to hold the new OOB.

The altered "OOB_SB_Brickyard" will enable when I load SOWGB. When I go to sandbox mode and attempt to load the file, it crashes....

There are many other things I have tried including different CSV editors, MS, Open Office, Garnier's editor, etc..... no results there. I tried the same OOB editing mode describe above and attempted to use OOB_SB_Sample2 for an OOB name and put in the Sample1 folder. No joy there either. I have run out of patience and ideas. Maybe someone can see what I am doing wrong.... and provide some enlightenment. I have not located any step by step instruction for doing an OOB mod.

Oh, yes when I deleted the Cavalry units, I renumbered the Chain of Command numbers accordingly.

I am thinking of reinstalling TC2M if I can't get this going.... I only play Sandbox mode and want very much to experiment with some of the OOB settings. My game time is very limited and I hate to use it all with repeated failure. Thanks for any ideas I can get.

Hi,

No problem, forget it. I'm maybe over sensitive.

No luck yet with my amateur modding efforts. Frustrating..because I had quite a good handle on the simple things I was doing in the old game.

Like I said, I just like to experiment in some of the stock scenarios with changes in troop numbers, quality and weapons...really so I can explore what makes the difference. I was able to do this quite easily in the old game, and was able to alter OOB's for Open Play.

I see oob's and scenarios in the SDK.I've altered the excell values in an oob, and altered a scenario so that the first "master" line refers to the renamed oob...just added mod at the end.

I made a "Jackson" folder and put the oob and the renamed scenario in, copied it to "mods", and it appeared on the modifications list but when activated did not appear in User Scenarios. I copied it direct to user scenarios, but it would't open.

I guess I'm doing something wrong at a basic level. Perhaps I should wait until the Mod Guide comes out?

No hurry, and if you think I should wait for the guide that's fine.

But after beating the basic game I'm keen to move on to some variations.

Thanks if you can help, and sorry to bother you again.
