SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
thanks, i'll give it a try...
Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
ok...we tried a 3-player online (SOW lobby) game last night:
- all other programs (like webroot) are "off"
- used a scenario i'd created (i'd played this exact scenario twice solo earlier in the day, with no issues at all)
- all 3 players had the scenario installed correctly
- it's a scenario we've all played before, online, but before i'd gone to Win 8.1 64bit
- they both are on Win 7
- we all got into the lobby fine, and into the game room fine
- we all "selected" who we would be in the game, and then the host launched the game
- we tried 4-5 times, and 4 of the times they made it to the game ok, but I got "windows has stopped working" and had to call them to exit the game, leave SOW, and re-enter lobby, etc., etc.
- the 5th time none of us made it to the "field" (no "stars")
- so...we scrapped the scenario, had another player host, and setup a basic sandbox 3-player game...
- I would still get "windows has stopped working" and we called it a night
- I've attached the latest log file here
- any ideas what's going on?

Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
The OS is not an issue here. Cassidy has a different version of the game map than the host. There is probably a mod active, Bugles&Flags most likely, which only one player is using.
I can make this march and I will make Georgia howl.
Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
no, we all had bugels and flags turned on...but i'm thinking he maybe didn't turn off the "textured maps" mod?

Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
The most likely culprit is the host and Cassidy had different versions of mapname.csv, where mapname is the name of the map you are playing on. Different mods change this. For mp play it is best if everyone use the same mods and activate them in the same order.

Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
What map was it?
Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
we will try again later this week, and i'll post here either way...thanks...(but, it's still weird that i'm the only one who gets the "windows has stopped working" message...and that when we've played 118 min of a 120 min game, I can get booted with that message with just 2 min left to play...and no issues for the first 118 min??)
Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
the scenario used one of the pipes creek maps (#1 I believe)...
Re: SOW Gettysburg and Win 8 ??
There are different issues going on here, not just one.
The games that crashed during loading due to a map mismatch have nothing to do with OS, that just means two players have different version of the map being used. This is probably due to having different mods.
The game where you crashed after playing for almost two hours, but other players didn't crash, seems more likely to be the windows 8 crash that we've been discussing already. I assume this game used a different map than the ones that crashed during loading.
