Camp Douglas?

Has anyone heard of Camp Douglas up in Chicago? I was watching a show about it on the History Channel and I was quite shocked and stunned about the stuff that happened there and I think even more shocked that this is the first time I have heard about it. Now yes you can say that Andersonville wasn't any better but their was only so much the Confederate Gov could do as far as taking care of the prisoners there, But when it came to Camp Douglas I belive the Federal Gov could have done more it seems like they just didn't care and was just letting men die in scores, not to mention the beating and senseless killing of the prisoners their.

Just wondering what you guys think or if you have heard about this place before?

I've heard of it also, and have seen the show you mentioned a couple of times. Yes, the Federal Government could have done more, they just decided not to because they wanted retribution for the entire war. I'm not defending their actions, just trying to understand it all. The prisoners had it no better at Elmira in New York

From the "For What Its Worth" department: As we all know, Andersonville was the most famous (or infamous, if you prefer) Southern POW camp where the Union Prisoners suffered a 29% casualty rate. In the north, Elmira, located in New York, Confederate Prisoners suffered a 25% casualty rate...which is immaterial to all but that 5%! :ohmy:
