Road marching bug
I've observed many troops now marching on the road with a couple of problems.
First they seem to zig zag a lot on the road making their trip longer than it should be.
Second they only seem to get the resting bonus less than half the time which means they lose fatigue overall using roads.

From the screen shot it looks like we need the command "From four files to two, undouble column, March" I think this is from Hardee's. We reenactors use it sometimes in the field when marching on a narrow road. I bet Kerflumoxed is familiar with the command.
You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

Re: Road marching bug
The screen shot is to point out that marching on a road is selected, showing the terrain is road, there is no resting bonus, and the regiment is losing fatigue.

Yes, indeed! Have used it myself as a battalion commander a few years ago at Prairie Grove State Battlefield in northwest Arkansas. Can be done "by the book" but requires halting the column, then undoubling, rather then commanding on the move. Not too terribly complicated, but uncommon. Very difficult while trying it on the move simply because the intervals are insufficient to allow the "merge," as you well know! :woohoo:Rob Son of Paul wrote:From the screen shot it looks like we need the command "From four files to two, undouble column, March" I think this is from Hardee's. You should not be seeing the 'resting' bonus icon while troops are moving on a road or otherwise. The advantage to roads is that the troops accrue less fatigue than they do on any other terrain type.

What about the zig zagging and seeing many times while on the 'use roads' not showing road as the terrain their traveling on, hence when zig zagging.

Re:Road marching bug
The zig-zagging is an artifact of the mapping system. If we went to a finer pixel size on that layer, there would be less zigging, but the game would run slower overall.

Ok. I'm just used to TC2 and no zig zagging on roads and even better performance for the maps I guess. And TC2 not losing fatigue using roads. As it goes now my regiments are exhausted using roads for what seems a short period of time and with the zigging not really getting much of a benefit in travel time if any benefit at all as roads aren't direct and losing so much fatigue. The zig-zagging is an artifact of the mapping system. I have to agree...the zig zagging just looks crazy. I'm hoping something can be done to address.
