All this scripted behavior in the scenarios is leaving me confused
I just read in another thread that in the McPherson's Ridge scenario, it is part of the script that Devin's troopers ride away out of the fight.
Short of being an expert on the battle, or having these scripted events documented as part of the scenario briefing, isn't this going to confuse some(most) of us when these things start happening for no apparent reason?
How will I know that something is happening due to scripted behavior that is hard-coded into the scenario, as opposed to something happening due to my actions(or inaction)?
Are certain things in certain scenarios going to happen no matter what the player does to prevent them from happening? Is Taking Charge from the AI the only way to change this?
I'm not sure that I'm getting my point across, so I'll stop rambling and see if I get any replies.

Yeah me too! I ordered Devens troopers to the fence line they moved readily to the position. I switched over to Gambles men and lined them up And watched in horror as Devens men just peel away. I got them back but Gambles men started to peel away. And then Devens again. I said a few muffled rats and figured the AI was a little wacky. All this and I didn't use AI, next time I will.

That's why it is stated in the message from Devin: "My scouts have reported the movement of large bodies of enemy troops to the northeast. As planned, I am moving part of my command north of Gettysburg. The rest will follow. Our infantry is approaching from the south."

Duh  Perhaps I should read more, and more importantly remember what I read.

I have asked Mark to get to the forum when he gets a chance to answer the scenario questions.

I look in vain for where it says "If a Confederate so much as passes gas in my vicinity, I will retreat like a little girl".That's why it is stated in the message from Devin: "My scouts have reported the movement of large bodies of enemy troops to the northeast. I understand Devin's move and actions but, GAMBLE is doing it also. GAMBLE's regiments retreat at the same time DEVIN'S does.
DEVIN and GAMBLE are retreating. Not just DEVIN.

I'll second this notion. If a unit is going to act on scripted behavior it should be computer controlled until the scripted behavior is ended, much like the Grover scenario in TC2M. Otherwise it's just confusing and frustrating.

I want to create my own history with Gamble and Devin. After the scenario creates the initial deployment, I'd prefer, as the division commander, to be in control of my cavalry. If Devin withdraws against my orders without good cause I will ask for his resignation.
You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

Then tc devin! You get a note from Devin saying he is withdrawing, Did you think he was kidding? If on receipt of that note you don't like the idea tc him. On the other hand, if you want to fight the battle historically, then do so.
My main problem with the game so far is units abandoning defensive positions. I played the brigade version of Pickets charge as the rebs and saw several yankee units move out from the stone wall, only to surrender to the rebs a few minutes later. Why would they do that? I know that all kinds of code was implemented to try to get units to stick to defensive ground in patch 3 from TC2M and it helped but not completely. Seems the same problem still exists.
By the By- that is a tough scenario not to get killed in...very historical in that sense.
