MANUAL SUPPLEMENT

Post by BOSTON »

The printing costs of the original manual was north of $30-35.00. This is a request to the Manual writers to produce a print-out supplement for any changes to the original manual, which likely would happen periodically. I'm sure that I am not the only one who did a print-out of the manual. I'd hate to spend more on manuals than I did for the original game! Maybe at some point you could sell a book style manual cheaper than what it costs for a member to print it, and most likely would weigh less. Where there is no game CD, I can't bring the (DRM) game to a print shop. I'm open to ideas about this if anybody has any.

Thanks, BOSTON

I don't know if I understand your request for ideas, but you could copy the pdf manual to a memory stick or burn it onto a CD and then take that to the print shop.

To me what you just posted is an "idea". How much do memory sticks cost? Mind you, this also adds to the cost of printing a manual or manual supplement. My pc does not have rewrite if that's what you mean by burning. Secondly, I have never saved anything to disc in my life! Thanks for the ideas. :)

Keep in mind that i've rendered the game manual as to be optimized for quick loading and on-screen viewing, i.e., the images are downsampled so that they look nice on the computer screen but will print at a lower resolution than you might be expecting.

if Norb has any plans to actually professionally print this, we can easily get the price way down as the quantity of manuals being printed goes up.

Actually I was just putting a bug in your ear, before a big patch comes out, that may have alot of changes to the manual and for you to give consideration as to how they can be reproduced. There is certainly a number of blind spots in the manual that are raised on the forum, some more difficult than others to explain. Perhaps some examples/samples could help put those matters to rest. Personally I like something (manual) in my hands that I have freedom to read anytime/anywhere I choose. The same may go for others who are interested in this game.

Boston,

Memory sticks are quite cheap. They are the new floppy disk. You can but them anywhere computer add-ons are sold; Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. They are reusable, think of then as a small external harddrive you plug into your USB port and then carry in your pocket.

I got some PMs about memory sticks, for instance a 4Mb stick is on sale at Staples for around $10.00. It also gave me an idea of how to enlarge maps at a print shop. It's simply not cost effective to print long documents on a home printing machine, It's convenient to do so at home, but your going to pay for it!, many times more than a print shop. On my list of "Things to do", is to drop by Staples. :)

I hope you meant 4GB. You can also find 2GB sticks for under $5. That's plenty of space for the manual.
