A HUGE Difference in Modding SOWGB vs. TC2M
A HUGE Difference in Modding SOWGB vs. TC2M
In TC2M, if you wanted to edit a csv file, you had to replace the entire file. That is NOT true in SOWGB. If you have 1 line you want to add to a file, you can create the csv with just that one line. In TC2M, it would only load 1 csv file, but SOWGB will load ALL the csv files. It will always load ours first, then the mod may replace entries or add to entries. So keep your mods simple and focused. They are much easier to work on that way.

So far, I cannot make the new method for creating an altered (changed a couple of values and a couple of deletions) work. What I hoped to accomplish was delete those pesky cavalry brigades and that would leave me with infantry and artillery only. Couldn't even get that done.
Can't figure out how the TC2M OOBs can work OK and I can't even make a couple of minor changes to a Sandbox OOB, and save the CSV file under a different name. Probably something simple I haven't fathomed yet.

We usually use excel to edit the csv files. But there is a freeware program called csved that works pretty good, you can search for it.
Re:A HUGE Difference in Modding SOWGB vs. TC2M
I have a few CSV editors and have used them many times with TC2M.
Trouble with this game is, I can change a value or delete a unit, save it as another name and it will not work. Yes, I did the activation, etc. Not working. Crashes.
One attempt was to delete the Cavalry Brigades from SB OOB.
The other attempt was to edit the number of troops in one regiment just to see if it would work. Yes, I put used the OOB_SB reference in the filename. No good.
One last note, the activation appears to work and the OOB shows up in the SB mode but causes a crash when selected. I'll experiment some more while waiting for more information to appear later on.

I thought that one of the improvements in this game was the stanardizing of Mod installations. In the old game there were excellent mods, but you could screw up the game by placing the codes in the wrong folders. I was hoping that Norb,s team was ensuring a simplified system so users can enjoy your graet mods.
Is that the reason for certain files not being allowed to be edited? Norb could you expand on this?

Thanks, but I'm going shopping for Excel, and cry about that and other stuff I chose not to have loaded when having my custom pc ordered, for I thought that I would never use certain programs, which I never used in my 2 prior computers. The '97 version can be found on ebay for cheap (got mine for around $20), and it works as well as the $300 newer versions.ADukes wrote:Thanks, but I'm going shopping for Excel, and cry about that and other stuff I chose not to have loaded when having my custom pc ordered, for I thought that I would never use certain programs, which I never used in my 2 prior computers.
