MAP READING? WHEN DOING ORDERS
MAP READING? WHEN DOING ORDERS
I find it confounding to try and do courier orders while not being able to read a map.

Re:MAP READING? WHEN DOING ORDERS
While this may not address Boston's concern (one which I share as well), I would like to have available a PRINTED copy of the game map....not the original 1858 map. Can that be made available?

Re:MAP READING? WHEN DOING ORDERS
Not being intimately familiar with all the GB locations, ie. structures, fields, woods, ect., I get frustrated when trying to compose courier messages. Because of this I have to constantly jump back and forth (courier outgoing icon to live on screen map icon) which chews up the game clock and makes the process to me ungainly. If there is a smoother way to accomplish this I'd like to hear it. In the meantime I would suggest a way to access a scenario map, with a Map button in the courier message page that does not allow the game clock to move, or rather stay in a paused state. Not only that, but a map that clearly IDs everything, for I have a difficult time reading what is issued, the print being very small, and being prevented from zooming in on it, makes it about useless IMO. At least a CO in the field could hold a map in their hands, then move the map closer or farther away according to their eyesight. I would'nt say that the courier system is completely trash to me, but darn close to it. Sorry, but that's the way I feel right now, it's all apart of being frustrated.

Re:MAP READING? WHEN DOING ORDERS
I posted some weeks ago the following proposal:
"I tried playing on historic with the couriers but that was not possible, it is so close, that it's very frustration. Only thing one would need is a map, where I could put a goal or even better a line where the unit should be deployed or a location to attack, defend. I believe, this can't be done with the 2D current map, ohterwise Norb would have done that already. But perhaps we could have a mixture between historic and "normal" by using the 3D evironment (perhaps set as high as possible) as an order location device without any troops shown in paused mode. This should be accessible in the "move to" order-menu and can be exactly like giving orders on "normal" setting, so the changes are perhaps not as big as using the 2D-map for orders (although that would be best of course).
This would simulate showing a point to attack or to move to to a courrier on the map and he shows it to the recieving officer."

I believe there are a # of scenario maps, perhaps a copy of each one of those maps with info could give a clearer picture of what's where, than a total printed overview map of the battlefield. The 1858 map leaves alot to be desired, considering what can be reproduced on a home copying machine, using common sheet paper. Garnier's minimap is promising (legible), none-the-less confined.

edit; A blow up of Garnier's minimap, of which I'm sure he has more of would be something to consider.
