Modifying the Toolbars and Hotkeys?

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Modifying the Toolbars and Hotkeys?

Post by Trilogy »

I see that the Bugles And Flags mod includes a new GUI, and I like the ideas there.

I'd like to make my own personal toolbar, and I'd like to modify the hotkeys. Where can I go to learn such things?

Here is a snip from the Bugles and Flags readme:
Toolbar

Included commands are:
Advance - my favorite new command, move forward quickly
OOB navigation
Follow - handy to immerse yourself among the troops and action
Aattackmarch - much handier than TC, with better results
Zoom (wanted a fast courier window close here, maybe in the future, can't get gamescreens to work for this yet)
Line commands are spit to provide the option of holding formations in lines
Atcommon and off
Getaway - short retreat
Attach Guns - Not available yet, wish list for Norb
Where do I go to learn about possibilities for new commands? (While we're at it, what do "Aattackmarch" and "Atcommon" actually do?)

Thanks for any advice!

From a previous post...execution is the key,

"Regarding attackmarch, yes, great battery assault weapon. Select unit, click destination, select formation, select attackmarch, select run. Once unit reaches guns, unit initiates capture. Rather slow to capture multiple guns, unless player remains with unit hitting Charge as needed. Still, equally as effective as TC, and more easily managed, especially because the player does not have to remember turning off TC, and leaving a 'sitting duck'."

Atcommon - TC's all the subordinates of the selected officer.

How do you make your own toolbar? Hmmm...I'd say study and compare the stock gui with my modded version. Study the SDK manual, and check out the commands. Other than a video, that's about all I can help you with unless you have specific questions.

So, onward with your quest, be prepared for frustration, and starting the game over and over a zillion and one times for tests. :woohoo:

As you work on the SDK stuff, make sure to post any ideas you have for new log messages to help debug this stuff. It's easy for me to throw in a logging message to make the creation and debugging go faster.

Is there a list of currently unused commands available for modding in? When I see mention of things like "getaway" and "atcommon", I wonder where I can find more information about these.

Thanks!

Nope, probably when the SDK documentation is complete.
