Demo crash

I have an interesting dilemma. I get the typical crash message at different points during the demo. I turned on auto-save at an interval of 2 minutes as suggested. During the last crash, I restarted and loaded the save. Now I get the critical error sound as soon as I hit the space bar after the saved game is loaded. If I start a new game I will be able to play for a time and then the crash happens again. The only helpful data I can add is that it seems to happen when I select a place for a unit to move, and most often, the brigade commander.

I have done the following:

Added massive permissions for the game in BitDefender (My AV/Firewall)
Temporarily disabled BitDefender completely
Run the game in Admin mode
Set the core affinity to use a single core
Uninstalled and re-installed the game.
Prayed for relief from God and as many pagan deities as I could think of for good measure.

I have the following system specs:
Windows 7 Home Professional 64-bit
i7 930 CPU
6 GB RAM
nVidia 275 with latest drivers

I am a life-long Gettysburg scholar and having this game is a no-brainer, but I need to get past the error before I can plunk down the cash for the full version.

Any assistance will be appreciated and if any more information is helpful I will gladly add it.

Did you install any of the beta patches?

The game says I am up do date. Does that mean the patches are exclusive of this check?

There are beta patches, they apply to the demo too. Look at the top of the tech support forum to grab the latest. We'll be releasing another very soon. They also open up another scenario on the demo.

The Beta patch 3 eliminated the crash I was having. I will test it more/longer and report back.

I activated the full version and I have not had any further crashes with the latest beta patch.

Great to hear, welcome aboard. Gonna have to trade that Cup of H for a Cup of Coffee, gotta stay alert for those foes coming over the horizon.

There is a CTD in there, but a fix is coming soon.
