This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Alpine Map Mod

Post by Marching Thru Georgia »

Davinci and I have created a small mod for the Alpine map.
1. New trails have been added to allow the enemy AI quicker access to your flanks and rear. Since the map itself cannot be changed, the new and existing trails are delineated with small brown stones. You may have a bit of trouble seeing the new trails, but rest assure, the AI will not.

2. A new mini-map has been created showing the new trails, (dotted lines), and many farm and geographic names are also added. These of course, can be used with the courier system.

To install, just unzip the folder "Alpine Map Mod" into your Mods folder. Start the game and go to the modifications page. Double click on the mod, (a yellow square will appear next to the mod name. Click the check mark at the bottom of the screen, and it will be ready for use.

Yes, it is GREAT work.

Now, a question from a computer illiterate: Why can't these GREAT additions/changes be incorporated into the current map?

Thanks

Which current map are you referring to? The Gettysburg maps? If so, the same thing could be done.. But the Gettysburg maps already have all of the historic roads etc., so it wouldn't be needed..

This Alpine Map – is what really brings the Civil-War-Atmosphere to a touch of reality like no other map has ever done.

Marching – Thru – Georgia – has done an excellent job with giving this great map some identifying names to help you to navigate around this part of the great state of Virginia.
I remember reading about how the armies used to march through the mountain passes to help conceal their movements, and these trails bring those memories to life.

Now, it’s very important to detach a Brigade to watch\guard the passes, before attempting to march you army down the main roads.

A couple of pictures – moving through the mountain pass

I’m really starting to wonder how much better this game can really get!

I should know this, but what area of Virginia is the Alpine map modeled after again? I must have missed that post...
