AP Hill Carryover Scenario Series - What If

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

AP Hill Carryover Scenario Series - What If

Post by Little Powell »

Name: AP Hill Carryover Scenario Series
Version: 1.2 - Updated to 1.4 on 3/14/11 to work with latest patch.
Type: What If
Created by: Matt Clyburn "Little Powell"

Note: Think of these scenarios as "carryover lite" meaning, not all troop numbers carryover since scenarios 1 and 2 use a different OOB than scenarios 3 and 4. For example, Heth's and Pender's division's numbers do not carryover into the third scenario. Their numbers are subtracted for their historical losses.

To install, simply unzip to your Mods directory.

Scenario Names:

GBLP01-July1-Little Powells Assault (C-Corps)

GBLP02-July1-Take Cemetery Hill (C-Corps)

GBLP03-July2-A Strong Position (C-Div)

GBLP04-July2-End This Fight Here (C-Corps)

If you want a completely different "what if" perspective on the battle, I think you'll enjoy this series.

Description: One of the countless "what ifs" of the battle of Gettysburg poses the question; "What if Anderson's division of Hill's Corps participated in the 1st Day's fighting, and Hill's Corps was able to take Cemetery Hill?". Some historians have argued with good reason that if Anderson had arrived earlier on the first day and charged forward, Cemetery Hill would have fallen to the Confederates. Colonel Abner Perrin, who commanded a brigade in Maj. Gen. William Dorsey Pender's division, believed Anderson's three-hour delay cost the Confederates the entire battle.

Well here's your chance to change history. You have command of Hill's three large divisions. Use them to help destroy the Army of the Potomac and win The Battle of Gettysburg. Keep in mind this series is carryover, so conserve your forces if you want to have enough remaining by the end!

Like my previous scenarios, each scenario has variants (meaning the scenarios will play different every time you play them). I also noticed during testing that the enemy AI will respond differently every time (especially in the final scenario). You'll play it once, and the enemy will be extremely aggressive. Play it again, and they will be more conservative. Norbs excellent AI really shines in this series. :)

Please report any issues here and I'll address them right away. Enjoy! :)

That first scenario was hard! I barely managed a Victory and suffered twice as many casualties as the yanks. The Union artillery defending the Appalachian Brewing Company was tough! :)

Yeah, those yankee artillerymen get nerves of steel after a few brews from the Appalachian Brewing Co.

Still a tough feat, even with Anderson there though huh.

Those brews are worth defending. Too bad the 11th Corp didn't drink a few... They might have held their ground.

Hi - I tried to install but didn't work...it gets stuck on 'drafting chain of command' and quits. Not sure where the OOBs folder goes.

Just unzip the zip file to mods. So the file structure should look like this

C:\NorbSoftDev\Scourge of War - Gettysburg\Mods\AP Hill Carryover Scenario Series

In the AP Hill Carryover Scenario Series folder, you should have the OOBs folder, Scenarios folder, and Intro.txt. http://www.norbsoftdev.com/media/kunena ... ucture.JPG[/img_size]

Great Scenario!

If I could go back in time and change one thing, I would shoot Anderson before the war started. He screwed up at Second Manassas, Antietam, Gettysburg... When given temporary command of Longstreets corps, his performance was very poor. After the war he was not even thought worthy of a helping hand. He died a pauper working as a day laborer.

Every time I try to load the third scenario of the AP Hill series, it crashes. Any idea of the problem?

Thanks Guys for a great game!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry to hear #3 is crashing.

After the crash, can you please go to the Work folder and locate the file SOWBG.log. Copy/paste the contents of that text file in this thread, it should give me a clue as to why it's crashing.
