A very nice battle, 9 players, on Mr. Barlow's Sharpsburg scenario. Mr. Boles turned the Rebel right and captured the Church. While the rest of the Union forces managed to hold onto the cornfield in a rightly bloody affair.

Come join us every evening around 7 EST for a good time. All are welcome.

Mr. Barlow is going to tweak the scenario and we will play again tomorrow.

Yeah it was a good game. Sorry I had to leave early, I had to run to stop n shop. I had Ricketts Division and was in the center. I broke the line at the church and had possession for a while but the rebel artillery drove me back with horrific losses. I think I suffered upwards of 50% casualties in that assault. It was at that point, I had to leave, but I hear we won!

For a while, I thought you had it. But the fence slowed you down and then a hailstorm of canister cut your boys to pieces.

I don't intend for this to sound like a whine.....Any chance of starting later once in a while, for those that can never make 7:00pm EST.

Just my 2 cents....

Yeah...the fence slowed me down. My main gripe is that I got like no assistance on my left flank. I made a strong push in the center with my division; My teammate, whoever it was, on my left flank, was basically only making a demonstration with a superior force in hand. So that didn't help me at all. If he had pushed like I did, we would have taken the church. Well that's all the what ifs and hypothetical situations....too many of those.

Well I'm the guilty one the left. It seems that my fumbling has been exposed. I was trying to figure out how to get my men lined up properly and was having a difficult time in doing that. I was close to the left team mate who was in the middle. In front of me was infantry and artillary. On my left front was a reb brigade in column still. On my left flank was our Artillary. My thoughts were to use them in conjunction with my attack as well as protect them from that reb brigade. I had difficulty trying to align men up for the assault. So I tried flanking to my left to get arround the rebs right flank. I did that and took them out and then I checked my right , next to you, and it seems you were beaten back. I also noticed by now that the artillary, the rebs, were aimed at you so I launched an all out attack on them. I wasn't paying much attention to any commands on the screen until some one wrote attack the rebs in the woods. I also didn't pay attention to the VP point which I didn't realize was even there until I was at the church. I apologize for any lack of concerted action on my part and will, in the future, try and read the on screen intructions, or commands. Well one thing I must admit. I saw the reb infantry with artillary in my front, I was hestitant to send my men in a frontal assault. So to my thinking a flanking or turning movement was a better option. I'll be back later if any one has any other comments.

I was running the artillery, and I think Mr. Newton was in a bit of a hurry. If he had waited for Boles to get in line on the left, we could have run the rebels off the church with minimal losses. But I think he was pressed for time; he did leave early. And Mr. Boles made the right move -- to set up on the high ground in front of my guns before beginning the attack.

But it all worked out. A very fun battle and a victory as well.

No worries RDBoles...

Its this type of scenario that you must make a direct aggressive assault. They hold the dunker church at the opening of the scenario so in order to take it, we must drive them from it. We took the cornfield with not much trouble..mainly because we had more men in it than the rebs did but still.

Don't get me wrong...your presence on the left side still drew some pressure off of me in the center but it all came down to coordinating the attack on the church. We both made faults. Oh well...there's always next time.

Probably won't be able to play for a while now...school is calling.

Till next time...

You know, these" after action reports ",are very helpful. I can better understand the mindset of my fellow commanders. Also it is useful to making better judgement calls or commands in the future. If one pays attention and learns from mistakes or successes. See you again in the MP.
