Well everyone has their opinion. My allegiance generally lies with the north even though i had relatives on both sides. My relatives knew what they were fighting for and I respect them for that north or south. Just my feelings

The American Civil war was fought for many reasons. It was not exclusively because of slavery, though slavery was the major contributor. Most Southerners who fought did not own slaves or benefited from slavery. They were defending their states. The obligation to state and community was very strong and dictated actions by the people. These strong feelings are not fully understood today. No one here who plays this game or lives in the south (I was reared in Texas) believes slavery was right nor do they wish a return to slavery or to justify it in anyway.

My family came from Maine and we fought for the North. I am much pleased that slavery was ended and am very proud of the fact that the abolition of slavery came from the British and from the Americans. It was mainly the British that ended slavery across the globe. I am much pleased that the Union was held together, though in my personal beliefs the south does have every right to withdraw.

Your post can be taken by some the wrong way, and in that it can be looked on by many as a problematic post.

I'm a Texan first and an American second. I'm of the opinion that's the way it was for a large majority of rebel soldiers, for their respective states.

Hi.

I wrote something earlier that really after reading the very welcome reply by NY Calvary, and the thank you by Southern Steel for NY Cavalry's post, I re-read what I wrote, and I was offended by what I wrote, and I really do apologize for it. I have no excuses for what I wrote, and I wouldn't use any even if I had one.

You know when I wrote that I wasn't trying to offend anyone, believe me it wasn't in my heart at all to do that. To tell you the truth it would have been a far better thing if I would have just said that I am a northern boy, and left it at that, and moved on as usual.

I am really sorry if I have offended anyone here, and I do take this seriously. So if anyone here wish's to vent there anger toward my stupid comment, just PM me.

Cheers.

There was plenty more to his post that I thought was good than just the last sentence, no need to stumble over yourself attempting to retract or apologize. You're entitled to your point of view, I didn't find anything particularly offensive about it.

Hi.

I know it sounds rather odd to say one is offended by what they have personally written. This normally happens when one has had too much to drink, and can't remember what they have said the evening before. It's a rather sad affair when one is sober, and has the same experience.

After reading the replies, I decided to read my opinion through others eyes so to speak, and I do admit that I could have written it much better, and omitted some parts which now I think had no business being there, and are the parts I apologize for.

I do however feel that if I was living in those perilous times (1860's) I would have joined the North to help in it's defense.

Later guys!

If you feel it's a little too controversial for public viewing, but still want to have a discussion/debate on it. Post in R&R, it's a good place for that sort of stuff.
