Scale Question

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Scale Question

Post by TheBaymonster »

Hey Everyone, what's up? I'm really digging this game, and love to mod... use quite a few from this board. You all put a lot of work into the mods, and it's greatly appreciated!! I've modded a few things myself to personal taste (realistic smoke levels, lower rifle accuracy for more accurate kill rates, etc), but am having a problem I hope you all might be able to help with...

I'm trying to make some SR1 battles, and I'm trying to alter the scale of the units in the gfx csv to half of their size now in order to make the scale more accurate with sr1. Problem is, when I half them in the file and make the mod, the game crashed when loading the gfx_wheeling file... Anybody know what's up?

Once again, thanks to all of you in the community. I'm sure there are lots of lurkers like me who just love these mods and info. Be cool to meet you all in multiplayer, but no one is ever on!

Just curious, but if you half the size of the units, won't they look like munchkins around fences, buildings, etc.?

About MP, you must not be joining at the right time. Week nights at 7PM ET is the best time. Friday's and Saturday's are the busiest.

After patch 1.2 the SDK was changed so the units are no longer listed in the gfx.csv file.

They are now listed in the unitgfx.csv file.

So, first make sure that you are running the latest patch V1.3, and that you download the latest SDK.

You can also run the maps without the houses and the fences , as for the reasons stated by Little Powell , you will probably have to get rid of the boulders also, everything else is moddable.

I went in the opposite direction, and play with scaled up sprites.

The smaller unit by the flag is the default size. But, I don't play with any of the objects in game. (i.e...houses, fences, boulders, etc)

Absolutely , this game is better to mod than the previous game, also everything is moddable.

The previous game would not allow for the musket smoke to be raised over the default height, but this game does allow for that.

Once the terrain features are also scaled up, or down depending on personal preferences, it’s sort of hard to distinguish the difference from a picture.

After all, in all of the pictures that I have posted no-one has ever mentioned that the sprites are a different size.

I will add that the smaller the sprite is, the better the sprite will look, it seems to keep the pixels tighter , if that’s the correct word to use.

I think it will make the scale look better, imo. I hate having units by houses, and looking at the individual sprites and seeing that 1 man is 3 front doors tall. Plus, with the sr1, I'll have regiment spread out to cover a brigade's area if I don't change it.

Maybe I'm modding the wrong csv then. I'll try that. Thanks

Ran into one more problem... I've got the scles reduced, but now the soldiers are not standing elbow to elbow. They are spaced further apart. I tried editing the drills file to place the columns at 0.1 instead of 2.2, but nothing happened. Is there no way around this?

You have placed all of these files that you are changing into a separate Mod folder, correct?

Once you have done that, yes the drills file will allow you to edit the space between the ranks.

A common problem is when someone tries to edit the files that are in the SDK thinking that that will change the settings in the game.

The files in the SDK should never be altered – only copied from there to a Mod Folder.

EDIT Post:

BTW - You will have to edit both columns to get the right look and spacing.

Columns E and Column F of the drills file.

After that you will have to adjust all of the other columns also - marching, fighting, etc...
