Realistic smoke mod

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Realistic smoke mod

Wanted to thank everyone for the help with my drills csv last night. Little powell asked if I could upload my smoke mod, so here it is. I'm a big civil war buff, and even if it might be a little overkill, I've always heard about battles where troops couldn't even see the other side through the smoke.

I personally like the effect... adds a real "fog of war" lol, especially if you play in the saddle, and you often can't tell where troops are coming from, it's difficult to guard flanks, etc. A little hesitant to upload it, because I know a lot of machines might have trouble with it and I'm not sure if people will like it, but here it is... try it in a brigade battle first.

Very realistic looking indeed. Nice work!

Do you notice much of a FPS hit with it enabled?

thanks man. it depends I guess. I had a cruddy pc that could barely run the game on low a month ago, and now I upgraded to 8gb ram and a 2.6 processor. Now, I can run the game like this at pretty much any scale with just a *little* slowdown at times, but I can only imagine what it would do to older machines.

Hi.

Cool effects. What effect does this have on the frame rates? The one thing I know is that smoke can kill the fps, but maybe things have changed.

OOops, I think me, and LP have posted at the same time. :(

Cheers.

Can I get a little help on how to activate this smoke mod?
You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

It is setup correctly, download to the Desktop – Extract file onto desktop - copy the Realistic Smoke folder into your NSD \ SOW \ Mods folder – and then activate in the game.

NSD \ SOW – is abbreviated above…..

Or, are you asking something else?

The Zip file in post #1 does not have a folder, just 2 files; a text file and a csv file. Was there a previous zip file I missed for this mod?

OK, we may be using different programs to extract the files.

Try this one it is WinRar.

Got it, thanks. That's a lot of smoke! Winzip works. I just screwed up my first try.
