Debian OS (8 DVD's)
Well I have finally got "Debian Installed". I was able to have my brother burn, and ship all of the 8 DVD's of the full distribution (jam packed full of every conceivable software for it) to me which now brings me to posting quite a few screen shots of the simple installation. Allot of it is self explanatory as you will see in each pic.
Now, even though I decided to install it in "VMware", this does not change anything all that much between installing a fresh copy to a HD, or to a partition if you already have another OS installed. Look at this as a NEW install with no other OS present.
Note: For those who do use "VMware", and wish to know how to set up a client to install Debian, please let me know, and I will post step by step screen shots for you (it's very easy to do).
Also, I have noticed a Setup.exe on the first DVD. I am unsure if this is to be used to install within Windows or not. If I do take a chance on it I'll definitely will let you know.
[Screen Shots]
Note: For those who are new to Linux, I chose the "graphical Install".

Re: Debian OS (8 DVD's)
This installation used only the first two DVD's. I still have 6 DVD's to browse through for programs I may need later. Unlike Ubuntu, and other Linux OS's, you do not need to have an internet connection when you have the full Debian distro bundle.

Re: Debian OS (8 DVD's)
Okay here is a very small update to this OS.
Since I decided to install it in VMWare, it has it's limitations, and to do a real test would require some sort of an install like Unbuntu via it's Windows installation. The current problem I am having is that when trying to install software from the DVD's within the "Software Centre" it asks me to switch DVD's, and in doing so just will not ask for the other DVD's required to complete the software I wish to install...Error problem pops up.
To overcome this small at times pain in my arse inconvenience I had to opt using the command line. For instance, if I wanted to install say Q4Wine, I had to use the command (without the quotes) "apt-get install q4wine", Only then will I be prompted for the proper DVD's.
Now since I am using an emulator, VMWare could be causing me this problem so I noticed a "Setup.exe" file on the first DVD (1 of 8) which I think might allow me to install in Windows. I have posted the question on the Debian forum, and to tell you the truth I can't seem to get an answer from anyone (it's been over 24 hours, and still nothing). It doesn't look good if no one is supporting the effort of trying to introduce Linux to the public...
Please don't take what I mentioned above to be something negative about the OS, it's only because I haven't tested this OS out in a more thorough fashion which I would be able too if I could install in within Windows, or dedicate installation.
There is a big benefit too having the full distribution package, I mean it has over 32,000 programs which you can install which is something to see when you scroll through. Just for games alone there are 400 plus (full 8 DVD pack), not to mention all the other cool things...I have to tip my hat to the boys who compiled this package.
I will let you folks who have an interest if Debian can be installed via Windows like Ubuntu. I do know from bit's & pieces I have read that it can be installed within Windows but I need to be absolutely sure before committing myself to this. From what I have read Grub, and Grub2 appears to be a nightmare, but since I haven't tried a full install I really can't tell you much more than that.
Later.

Re: Debian OS (8 DVD's)
Forgive me guys I am normally Johnny on the spot when it comes to posting links to things I post about.
Anyone here actually named "Johnny on the Spot", please don't take offense.
Main Debian Website: http://www.debian.org/
Debian CD or DVD (Full) Download Link: http://www.debian.org/distrib/
Debian DVD Full Download: http://www.debian.org/CD/http-ftp/#stable
Confused by what you are reading? I have the I386 (8 DVD set): http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/6.0.3/i386/iso-dvd/ (32 bit). Choose carefully young padiwan.
Note: CD refers to the small installation package (requires internet for other packages). DVD is the full blown, kick arse give me everything I can handle download.

Re: Debian OS (8 DVD's)
Well, I finally received an answer to my post about the Setup.exe. The sad part about it though is that the linux users can be very rude.
Here is the link to the help page for the Debian Installer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Win32-loader_%28Debian%29

Mike are you talking to yourself again? What did I tell you about that!
You just looked lonely in here..
It does look cool though. I've always stuck to Windows and its various OS's. But I know lots of people that have switched to linux and never went back..

I have heard that as well, but I would like to have the best of both worlds if I can.
Cheers LP.

Re: Debian OS (8 DVD's)
Speaking of OS's, (not to veer too off topic ) but I've bee very impressed with Windows 7. It has taken a while for me to be able to give my full opinion, but I think it beats out XP. XP is/was the workhorse of Windows, but man, I've had Windows 7 on my gaming laptop for two years now, and haven't had to reformat once, no virus's, no issues whatsoever (knock on wood of course).. I was at least an every six month reformatter back when I used XP.

Re: Debian OS (8 DVD's)
I totally agree with you about Windows 7, I have been using it for about 7 months now, and I haven't come across a problem with it. What I have found is I have some older games which wouldn't install on Windows XP but now work in Windows 7 with no tweaking, It's the best of the whole line of Windows releases.Speaking of OS's, (not to veer too off topic ) but I've bee very impressed with Windows 7. I know what you mean about Windows XP, I had the same problem, I got pretty tired having to install a fresh copy every second month which made me look at Windows 7, and I haven't looked back.

Yup Windows 7 is the best, hands down!
Cheers LP.
