This is interesting. According to Scott Hartwig at GNMP, no Federal rifled artillery batteries carried solid shot into the battle.

Sounds like we need to dump all that solid shot out of the rifled guns' limbers and caissons and fill the empty slots with percussion shell, timed fused shell, shrapnel (which used a timed fuse), and canister.

That is interesting.
I'm all for decreasing the variety if not the volume of lead coming my way.
I would really like to know is whats the difference between a timed fuse shell and a shrapnel shell, never heard of a timed fuse shell before now.
