Fog of war improvements?

I was doing a little musing this morning about potential advances to the fog of war system employed in the game.

Right now, when we look at the mini map, we not only see what our own eyes see, but the visions of any friendly unit or officer anywhere on the map. Essentially, you can send out a few scouts (sometimes known as arty cmdrs---particularly arty battalion cmdr.) and effectively know the enemies position. Wouldn't it would be more realistic to necessitate couriers to indicate the whereabouts of a unit far from your unit's direct line of sight? It could simply be a delayed recognition simulating the action, but only providing cursory details.

Now I’m not advocating a strict LOS rule. I mean, you can discern the presence of an enemy in several ways. The actions of friendly units will hint at where the opposition is, the sound of gunfire, or even the sound of thousands of men tromping through the underbrush. I’d just like to see a degree or two toward a more realistic FoW if possible.

This would be an especially great feature in MP, imho. Imagine a friendly co-op unit engaged with the enemy out of your sight. You hear the guns but don’t know what the hell is going on. You have three options: 1) ride off to the location to discern for your self; 2) send an aide to report back with the situation (more vague); 3) wait for the engaged command or an officer with knowledge of the situation to report and request aid or whatnot. I think it would be a brilliant dynamic and beautifully simulate the difficulties that officers had with regards to FoW.

if you turn up the difficulty , what you see on your overview map will change, As it is in MP,for the group i play in, we dont see anything on that map.

The blank map setting is the best way to play.
