Open Office

Here you can talk about whatever floats your boat. Your favorite movie, sports team, etc. If it's a little racey, I suggest you post in R&R, otherwise we'll move it for you.

Open Office

Post by norb »

Has anyone tried using the open office spreadsheet program to mod our csv files?

Just wondering because it's free and cross platform and is bound to be more convienient to use than Excel.

I used it, but I found excel to be easier, at least for the csv files. There are a few settings that need to be tweaked for compatibility issues, but I used it for 2 years and it worked pretty good.

It's a free open source office suite like MS office. It can open ms office files. It also runs on multiple OS's

I've heard of that. There are lots of bugs, I believe, if my source is correct.

Actually it's pretty mature now. B)

In fact it's mature enough that the Pennsauken NJ Board of Education almost switched to it for all it's schools. The only thing that stopped it was during a small beta test some of the teacher's couldn't grasp the concept that they just couldn't hit "save" and have it be compatible in M$ Word. You have to do "save as" and set the file extension each time for formats other then Open Office. This caused some serious panic over lesson plans.

I use it all the time. It is the only word processor we use. Many companies around the world use it. You should check their web site and see if it is useful for you.
