The crap I go through trying to figure things out...

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

I loathe the day I met my first damn computer. It has cursed me with more misery, and sadness than my hemorrhoids.

I was a perfectly normal human being who went about his nromal routine. then I came across my first computer which made me to be never satified again. I'm hooked on trying to figure something out, and making things work, even those things that can never be done I refuse to believe in that it cannot be done.

I curse computers really... ANYWAY enough about that since I seem to talk more about myself than what I really wanted to talk about in the first place...

Okay so I came across a game called Minecraft which after poking about it led me to want to try to figure out how to create a mincraft server...

So I really didn't like the idea of having to leave my computer on all night just to have a server running. So I decided to go on a hunt for a free linux server.

I have spent all day today messing around, and finally came across a FREE linux server I could use...and so I installed minecraft with no problems since creating a server is child's play.

But I saw a problem, for me to run this server I had to keep my telnet connection open to have it run which then made me do allot more hunting for java commands which would allow me to drop my telnet connection without shutting down the bloody server meaning having Minecraft run as a background service.

Here is the command I came across, and it seems to be working, my server is now running without a hitch, and I can go to bed knowing that I finally figured something out for once without having the feeling that I was banging my bag against a brick wall.

Here is the command for running the java in the background. I'm sure allot of you know this but I just want to post it so I can say "yeah, damn right!"

Command: nohup java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar craftbukkit.jar

Anyway, if you are interested in playing on my mine craft server which is no longer on my computer but on a remote server visit this address

79.133.201.89

This server is open to everyone.
