Hunter Killers

Post by montecristo1981 »

Could you make it so 2 r 3 small 25 man squads of cavalry are in every div OOB, and set them on 'hunt down weak targets'? SPECIALLY officers...need to stay closer to thr troops.

right now im scoutin miles in front of my army & no fear...

A little unrealistic.

And for people who play HITS, useless.

The ability of the general to scout ahead represents the recon ability of the army anyway - picquet lines, cavalry patrols, etc - at least to me it does.

HITS & Couriers - a different and realistic way to play SoW MP.

good point ST - im undecided on this one....

cavalry is never/under used in most of my sandbox battles - a 'fast moving, ever present threat' would be cool as it would stop me moving my general wherever I want and would add ome supply wagon and arty danger...

but

as you say, the commander represents almost the whole armies scouting at present..

I have brainstormed ideas to discourage gamey commander scouting, especially in MP. One idea is to have a certain radius (maybe 4 or 5 hundred yards or so) where if your commander is near an enemy unit in that radius, there's a chance you can get sniped...

That would discourage the behavior quite a bit I think..

Just make it so commanders don't actually 'see' anything.

I like this solution. It would force us to use skirmishers. That would be very realistic.

I always liked how in TC2M when the skirmishers came into contact with an infantry line they immediately fell back. They would fight other skirmishers, but would fall back under the greater pressure without being told to. Again, very realistic. I wonder if this could be modded into SOWG?

Currently at gcm we have host that invoke a 200m rule in that your commander cannot be more than 200m from your nearest troops!
