Login and multiplayer play

Post by MarkT »

Every time I log in I have to reset my password. Every single time!!! You would think I know it by now Since I write it in BIG letters on paper next to my screen. Simply AMAZING!!!

1.5 version has basically shut our multiplayer (corps/army level) game DOWN.!!! Right up until the day we updated from 1.4 we were fine, with minimal issues. Now we do not play. We are now ready for Chancellorsville. We can now watch from the outside. Enjoy. Have a nice day.!

Out of interest what happened? After the 1.5 install several of our folks saw significant FPS loss. Not all, but some. My FPS was worse before 1.5 and after I wiped all folders and registry entries my connection speed and game speed was awesome. However, three of our group had FPS rates drop. On Friday I did some extensive testing and found two of the guys had FPS that ran between 5-7. That is horrible and it started the day we did the 1.5 install. We've only played two games since then and both games with 1.5 were very "stuttery" with two players stubbornly stuck at 5-7. I checked drivers, hardware checks, etc. Both machine have better cards than my geforce GTX 550ti and equal or better processors thna my older i5. I'm running routinely at 25FPS+ and sometimes as high as 60FPS. However, they SUCK and are slowing everyone down and making game play...well, unplayable. Same OOB and same maps we used prior to 1.5, but worse performance. Any ideas from NSD or community at large?

This is odd, all the first reports regarding MP play with 1.5 were very positive, reporting improvements of flow and FPS rates.

Are other MP groups now experiencing these above stated issues? Please report.

Passwords login info is all handled by a third party, Battle HQ/Wargamer. Although it's odd that no one else has experienced issues of this kind. I would suggest you report this issue to them, or post on their forum to see if there are anyone else having similar issues.

The below machine belongs to one of our MP group that lost performance with 1.5. My experience was great and my FPS went up. However, this guys framerate even in single player will not budge above 14. Prior to 1.5 he was running in the high teens to low 20s. We played a multi-corps antietam map fight not 45 days ago and he ran just fine, no lag at all. As soon as we installed 1.5 this guy started getting severe MP lag. As you know well the slowest machine lags us all to his speed.
Yes, I've gone over trees and graphic settings. Reduced trees to 10% and it have zero impact, turned off board trees and terrain off, reduced uniform and objects settings down. I had him do a complete clean reinstall, wiped folders and registry entries and his preformance still hits 3-5FPS even with div on div MP. Again, it is single player and MP both so it is not his connection. I can only think that hardware is failing. However, there is another machine from another player that is showing the same issues. The other four machines in the MP group are not lagging at all. This machine ought to be smoking SOW although 1.80 is lower than I'd like. No errors or crashes that would indicate any issues.

Well, I would say it's their internet connection speed that's lagging everyone down. However with this statement:
However, this guys framerate even in single player will not budge above 14. Prior to 1.5 he was running in the high teens to low 20s.
...something's amiss.

I'm running XP with 2 GBs of RAM with a 2.8 AMD dual core CPU, dual 9600GT SLI'd Graphics Cards, and I can sometimes get over 30 FPS in single player brigade level stuff. I've seen no reduction at all with the introduction of 1.5, just like you and most of your group. So, this is indeed baffling, and above all, difficult to test and find answers. And, with all the stuff you've done to help them out, more of a mystery.

Keep bumping this thread up, maybe there's an answer out there...wish the SOW team had some clues on what to test about fixing this.

Thanks

Internet Speed is Not the issue. I have strongest internet stats... But my laptop runs the game at 34 fps
Same internet.

Boy theres a post after two hours of trouble shooting. I am a real grumpy bugger.
My machine FAR excedes minimal requirements. and I could not pull 4 frames.

Almost everyone in my group upgraded to new Video within a month or two..
Oldest machine at 1.5 years old. And MINMUM Double the requirement.
We play HUGE OOBs 120,000 and have had MINIMAL issues.
NOW WE cannot RUN 60,000 AT ALL.
It is NOT one machine pulling all down. It is everyone. singular with LOW FPS. Put us together and it takes 5 seconts to put the clock to 1 second 4-5 fps

I suspect bad install But, I wiped all clean but cannot download new. ALL downloads reached 99% and "times out"
The downloads are a mixed bag.
Is there a 1.5 FULL version out there.
The patches are not 1.5, but I hear others are directly installing.

Do you need 1.4 first? Then patch?

Yep, tried with different sized OOBs, all mods on, all mods off, stock OOBs, different maps, different graphic settings, single player, different numbers of players connected in a step by step organized rational documented fashion. It stubbornly hovers between 11-14fps and drops below 10 as soon as anything starts to move. Maybe his hardware is sporked or bad BIOS. RAM seemed to be okay, but remote diagnosis is hard. I am at a loss for new ideas at this point. We got him to around 20 with just a single bde on bde. Soon as we went larger he dropped right back into sub 10 range.

Anybody have a thought...Bueller...Bueller?

You have pretty much ruled out everything I would have you look at. I'm at a loss with this one. I would suggest a re-install. Maybe re-install from a fresh install of the Matrix version of 1.5. You can grab it by registering your product on the matrix page. See my pinned topic in the Add-ons category.

I just tried downloading AN, GB and PC from the Matrix site and had no problems. Is that where you had the problem?
