Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
I have just been fighting a Ch'ville sandbox "hunt them down" battle with an objective on map.
My issue is that whilst exploring the map and planning my route I was able to see from the map ,whilst still well beyond visual range, that the objective had already been captured and displayed the enemy flag.
This revelation clearly and unrealistically helps you in planning your approach march and organisation. It should not be possible to know if the enemy had reached the objective first until some of your troops are close enough to see them. This uncertainty and its effect on approach and tactics seem very important in conveying the realities and surprise elements of such an encounter.
Is there any way that the enemy flag would only be displayed once friendly troops came within visual distance. (The time counter for the capturing force could still begin when the capture actually takes place-------but no flag display giveaway until visual range is reached.)
Thanks for any feedback

Re: Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
There is no way to mod this. In your case, best bet would be to just play without objectives. The enemy AI will still assign troops to areas of the field (sort of assigning them to invisible objectives) but you will have no way of knowing where. This is how I have always played. I think its the most realistic giving the most unknowns and all points must come from combat...
However if more players would like to see a change here, we can look into other options for a future release.

Re: Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
Thank you very much L.P. for your response. But personally I do not really enjoy a totally generalised chance wandering over the whole map and much prefer having some objective goal(s) in mind. But as I suggested I do think it important to maintain surprise elements and choice of tactics for such a task .And the map revelation of prior capture is an unrealistic giveaway when you are still well beyond visual range.
If hiding this flag indication until in visual range is not moddable is there any other possible way
this same fog of war could be maintained until realistic contact. I do think it is an important and realistic factor and would favour any method of maintaining this uncertainty and maximising the suspense factor in this type of battle.
Cheers

The Kriegspiel group players had the same concerns and, after we posted here, Garnier suggested a way of setting the objectives to stop them flagging the enemy's presence. I can't find the post now
Was the idea to set the trigger at a huge number of troops in a tiny radius? It was something like that, I think.
If this works, it might achieve what you want.
In the Kriegspiel group games, btw, we have stopped using objectives.

Have you tried the Search feature (Forum-->Search--> Search By User Name) by username (Garnier) for his posts ?

Chamberlain - yep, tried that. There were quite a lot of posts by Garnier with 'objective' in them, but not the one I'm looking for. I might try again, can't remember if I specified 'whole post' or title...

Re: Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
Even if it has been modded, it would have been for custom scenario setups or something else generated by the GCM. As far as I know, nothing like this could be modded for a standard single player sandbox game. I've been wrong before though...
Either way, I'll get it in our system for a future update. It makes sense and I can't think of any reason someone would want to know the enemy holds an objective, unless you can see the OBJ and troops in your LOS.

Re: Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
Couldn't find it here 'cos it was on the GCM forum.

Set the troops required to 1000 and they'll never fit 1000 men in 10 yard radius.
Now, I can't remember if you can set objective trigger conditions in the stock game, or only using Garnier's mods. If the latter, pcelt, I'd recommend the SP mode / mod.

Re: Sandbox "Hunt them down" issue
Thanks for a possible "solution"
Could anyone explain where exactly in the programme this 1000 troop setting needs to be set up so as to apply to sandbox battles when required .
