HITS Wishlist
I think it would be great if there were movement keys for the commander in HITS. All too often, I'll be clicking my little commander all over the battlefield, and then accidently order a unit somewhere when I am actually trying to move myself. I think using the arrow keys or something to move the commander around would make life a lot easier, as well as freeing valuable clicking time.
In addition, it would be neat if we could only view a units stats if the commander was within the shouting distance. Then we would only know which units were breaking by being right next to them, and not from across the line.

Re: HITS Wishlist
Regarding the first request, assign the advance command to your keyboard, or, use a modded toolbar that has advance options.

As a fellow HITS player I share your frustrations here (first request).
Although I expect it would be a lot more coding, I would be in favour of a new HITS mode using the WADS keys for moving your command figure about BUT with the point and click method being also available for more distant movement or for when intending to order his units to form up.
Using WADS would be really useful when running around in close or steep terrain, built up areas or when close to the fighting where flags and figures often limit the free screen space that you need to click on. Minor adjustments like negotiating walls/fences or just stepping back from the firing line would be much easier and free time for issuing orders.
Keeping the point and click function would still be useful for setting your course and where you want do be doing other stuff like looking around, issuing orders, maps,OOBs etc.
Perhaps one mouse button could be assigned to your command movement only, the other to subordinate/unit selection. This would reduce the occasions when you accidentally select units when just wanting to move.
I am also in favour (unlike Reb, so I understand
) of reducing mouse pointing and clicking activity which can get quite frantic in a close engagement.
One other thing I would like is a specific key assigned for the go to ME GUI command. Unless I have missed something, it seems that (unless you use the GUI) you have to negotiate back through the OOB with the arrow keys. Is it possible to assign a key for this? Preferably, the Spacebar.
Thanks, Grog

Re: HITS Wishlist
Thats a good solution - set to a small distance. Along with a rotate keys you could happily tap your way around the map.Regarding the first request, assign the advance command to your keyboard, or, use a modded toolbar that has advance options.

Could someone do a 101 guide to doing this? It sounds good.Thats a good solution - set to a small distance. Is there a 'move back 20 yards' command that could also be mapped to a key? That is something I need to do a lot in HITS battles and it Is time-consuming.
I'd also, like Grog, love a keyboard command for ME.
Re: HITS Wishlist
ME 'should' be easy - I aint much of a modder, but look what command 'go to me' executes in the .csv - then add a new key command to your keyboard list and add that command as the executable.
Edit - enter 'goto' in the keyboard.csv opposite 'space' where it currently says 'moveup'. That should do it.
Edit 2 : obviously you wont be able to use 'space' now to move the camera up any more - so plan ahead

Re: HITS Wishlist
Thanks Con20or
I will try it out and report back.
I don't use the space bar, mouse wheel seems to work fine, especially at 2m HITS setting.

Re: HITS Wishlist
Definitely a collapsible OOB in the courier menu, to more easily find commanders and units. This is far and away my number one. Doing large battles is a huge chore looking through hundreds of units to find a brigade commander.
CWGII -> SMG -> SMA -> WNLB -> ANGV -> TC -> TC2M -> SOW
Re: HITS Wishlist
I agree this is important - and a staggered courier menu has been requested by me and will be followed up on - - - - BUT - - - this will not appear any time soon. Bigger and better things are planned.
Has anyone tried putting spaces in front of commander names in the OOB.csv? That should do the job as an interim fix.
For example - see this image. Ive reversed the spacing because it's easier to do generals rather than units, but a determined person who really wanted it could do multiple OOB's in a few hours. An interested MP group could do it in a few minutes, it's just copy and paste - 1 spacing for brigadiers, 2 for divs, 3 for corps, 4 for army.
Don't go mad with the spaces though - remember this is showing up in the game screen too - see below. Meade's name is in danger of slipping out fo screen.
An alternative method could be symbols before generals names.
i.e :
x Brigadier General con20or
xx Brigadier General Born2See
xxx Lieutenant General Norb
or
I- Brigadier General con20or
II- Brigadier General LittlePowell
III- Lieutenant General Norb,
Etc.

Re: HITS Wishlist
Thanks! I have done this and it works. Brilliant. I assigned it to G, which previously had 'gotosel' assigned to it. I have never used that, so all good.ME 'should' be easy - [...] - enter 'goto' in the keyboard.csv opposite 'space' where it currently says 'moveup'. That should do it.
Next wish: keys for 'advance 20 yards' and 'reverse 20 yards' ...
