GCM Terrain Mod

Post by Little Powell »

I wanted to get the GCM terrain mod that comes with Random Maps 4 in its own mod. This mod improves the look of the in-game vegetation and walls. The graphics come from various sources, Jolly, Crikey, 2nd Texas, Davinci, and Garnier.

Jolly's original mod found here still works, but it uses the old method before we went to packed sprites (which improve performance on most machines)

This mod works with all Gettysburg maps (including Alpine, ECF) and all Antietam maps.

To install, simply unzip to your Mods folder and enable in game.

The visual difference from Jolly's mod is that the trees are a darker green, and the walls are browner and less bright.

What maps does this terrain mod work with?

other than the 4 random maps.

Yes, should have clarified this. It works with all Gettysburg maps (including Alpine, ECF) and all Antietam maps.

Will it work with the C-ville maps/scenarios? I assume not or you would have mentioned it.

Frankly, the CV stock terrain doesn't get any better...Texas John was a master artist.

Yeah, they will not work with the CV maps.

I agree with Reb though. And thankfully TJ was able to create several more trees that will be used in the next release.

Trees, vegetation is a whole art in itself. And for future releases, we are hoping to follow TJ's lead.

Fantastic mod! I especially like the muted, darker foliage. Thanks for this!

I just tried this mod for the first time, and I get all kinds of weirdness. Unfortunately I can't take a screenshot, but this may be something others have described before with other graphic mods.

When I install this mod, textures for some terrain items seem to be swapped out in a crazy chaotic fashion with other textures. Trees look like stone walls with eagles on them, for example, and the ground is dotted with little specks of other terrain. Obviously some ID's for terrain items are getting mixed up. Uninstalling the mod fixes the problem, but of course I'm back to stock terrain.

Is there some incompatibility I don't know about? Am I adding it wrong? I think I know how to use the Mod folder, and it seems to be in the right place.

EDIT: I think I fixed it. There was an incompatibility with the old "Enhanced Unit Icons" mod.
