Okay Chickpeas, time to ramp it up a notch... Over Flanders Field's [Video, and Link Included]

Post by Michael Slaunwhite »

I have been a fan of World War 1 flight sims since I first laid my Gumby fingers on "Knights of the Sky by Microprose", and I went searching many moons ago for something that would bring back that feeling of waging war in the wild blue yonder...

I came across Microsoft's Combat Flight Sim 3, and a complete conversion called "Over Flanders Field", and I was totally hooked. This complete conversion is exactly that, and one of the most realistic World War 1 flight sims known to exist, and if you are into realism, this is the one.

Okay...Okay, I know there are a few that would argue that "Rise of Flight" is the best, but you know you have to be online, and have to pay for add-ons, and things of that nature. With Over Flanders Field you own that puppy, and can install it anytime you want, and play it anytime you want even if you no longer have the internet.

Requirements:
#1: Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 3 (fully patched).
#2: Over Flander's Field Conversion.

So here are the links, and a video for you to enjoy...

Thanks Mike.

Can't stand "Rise of Flight." Wildly over-hyped. Big on IL2 Sturmovik for WW2 Flight sims. Have kind-of been looking for a WW1 flight sim since I watched "The Red Baron" awhile back. Will check it out.

No problem Jack, always willing to pass on a great thing. Here are some pics I took of Flander's Field Conversion Game Manager. You can really tweak this baby, so it provides you with total realism, or you can take the easy route, and make it as easy as possible if your new to the genre. It's also sports a full Dynamic Campaign, Multiplayer, or Quick Action which just makes this game shine... and all I can say is, if you like realism then be prepared to get your diapers wet (kidding of course). :)

Special Note: I own the Phase 2 version not the phase 3 which they are selling now, all the same it's a real nice WW1 Flight Sim.

Here are all of the Screenshots. Also I am will be making a recording of my Campaign if anyone is at all interested.

Damn, I have to stop posting. I don't want to see you having to remortgage your home there redcoat.

It is a very cool sim, the unfortunate part is that there is no digital download. They only support sending you the CD version via snail mail (stupid idea actually, but hey it's their conversion). I could be wrong on this, but I haven't found anything that would suggest otherwise. Also having to buy a copy of a long dead flight sim "Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator 3" is a real pain, and in some cases very difficult to get a copy.

BUT once you get all of it installed, it's a joy to play.

I'll make a small video of me taking on my first flight. I have to install cam studio to record the preface settings, and show how to make your first pilot, and so on, and so on. Just to remind everyone who is interested, I am playing with the Phase 2 edition (fully patched) not the Phase 3. I really doubt I will be paying for the next version of the conversion simply because I think it's a royal pain to have to wait for it.

Cheers redcoat.

Hmmmm, I have been doing some poking around, and here is a video of a mod created for IL2 1946 that might do what I posted earlier, but then again it may not.

Link: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/t ... 088.0.html

I'm not too sure though. For as long as I have owned, and played IL2 1946, all of the WW1 mods or conversion just never made it past the alpha stage. Normally they are given up on. There was one that was being worked on called "Canvas Knights" but that was dropped.... Oh well!

Update: Unfortunately there is no conversion yet that is advanced, and full of depth as "Over Flander's Field" at the moment.

I'm starting to download the Mod now for IL2 1946 from here: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/t ... #msg272162

Oh my dear God, in order to play this thing you need to also download one of the most massive mods I have ever seen. The damn thing is over 9gig compressed. It is twice if not more than the original 4.07 IL2 1946 game...

This had better be worth it because I just don't have that kind of HD space to be mucking around for a WW1 game/mod.

You might want to download it using a torrent program. They have the complete 9+ gig file online for torrent download which you can grab from their forum post: http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/t ... #msg239532 which is what I am doing.

Let's see where this will bring us...

Looking forward to hearing. I bought Rise of Flight but you have to pay for every plane so the campaign is somewhat limited if youre a cheapskate :)

Nothing wrong with that con20or... Who really wants to be hooked up to a 21st Century milking machine anyway? :)
