LOS

Post by Marching Thru Georgia »

After watching the matrix demo, I saw a line of sight problem. Near the end of the video, a sandbox game was started. It showed artillery located behind a friendly line of infantry. It was shooting through the line. Since this was flat ground there appears to be a severe line of sight problem in the game. I recall the early versions of the current game having the same issue. It still does to some extent, but not as bad as this.

Is the team aware of this and addressing it?

As far as I know the LOS fixes carried over with the WL engine. I have seen no major concerns with LOS, blocked targets and shooting over appear good by me. The maps are not flat, more like low hills, so targeting kicks in long range for artillery as the elevations permit. Regardless, I'm sure you'll have some good saves for us soon after release if we've been amiss here. :)

Same here, no problems on our end. Probably just looked that way. Small changes in terrain elevation are hard to spot but are there and do raise the artillery sprites and give them a clear FOV over units in front of them.

What's the minimum height differential suppose to be before guns will fire? In the first game it was 20 feet, although I don't think that was ever achieved.

Rather than have the customer debug the game it'd be easier for the team to set up a scenario that recreates the sandbox game in the video and take a look. The ground looks very flat with no distant targets in view.
