I was just watching the Matrix video again and wondered what impact the new pop-up contextual GUI buttons would have on HITS play.
A concern I have is the pop-up buttons are like a floating toolbar and it could well be right in front of where you are looking and it could obstruct what you want to see. I am also concerned about how the new revolving green line with arrowhead on the terrain to show facing will work in HITS - and I don't mean our 2yds first person version of hits, I mean the NSD 10yards "giraffe-neck" version
Have the HITS fans on the team tested this so you can see what you are doing? Is there a secondary confirmation of where your unit is facing elsewhere other than the green line/arrow on the terrain?
I also don't see a compass rose on the toolbar. How do players in MP communicate directions to each other? It would be a bit of a step backwards to have to click a button to flip a compass up (unless its a kind of RPG 1st person animation - that would be cool).

1. The new WSAD keyboard HITS movement will mean you can limit your use of the mouse to important orders only.
2. The context toolbar can be turned off if you like and RebBugler is working on an enhanced version of the old toolbar but incorporating the new features like mouse-drag direction.
3. It's all very moddable - if you want them to pop up in the upper right hand corner thats fine - that just wasn't an option in our release.
4. The compass! Far too important to miss. There is a compass in the bottom left of the toolbar and a graphic view of the terrain type. But pressing a button to open a compass sounds cool to me.

In which case how does a player with a viewpoint fixed so close to the ground know where his units will face when he slides his mouse for a facing direction? Say the position chosen is beyond a hill, trees or buildings? How does a player face his units with certainty using only that green arrow/line device if its out of sight?

How I do it now is irrelevant because the new game has a new interface with unit facing controlled by a completely different mechanic. My question is how does that interface give me the same information the present toolbar buttons do?
Con20or, you seem to be being somewhat obtuse or difficult here. My question is a very simple one and the time for holding back information or playing teaser-like mind games with your new product is past. Your prospective customers are now reading these forums so being open and helpful with your answers would be appreciated, by me, probably by other would-be buyers of the game and probably by Norb's bank manager as well.

Not at all. HITS has not changed. If you cant see a destination because it is behind a bank, or tees or a building you can not click there and cannot set an orientatio so im not sure what you want me to say.

Use the wheel-buttons, they also govern the destination arrow. Sure, it's more difficult than Normal gameplay, but HITS is Grognard gameplay, meant to be more difficult.

There are still wheel buttons? That sounds helpful and is one answer I was seeking; some confirmation of direction other than the new green terrain arrow (have you a technical name for that GUI device? I can't keep typing "green revolving arrow/line on the terrain" every time I have a question about it!).
Sorry Con20or If my patience ran thin there, but Reb had the answer I was seeking and of course if you use the command map in HITS you can send a unit/brigade/division anywhere on the map, so having some other confirmation of its direction of facing on arrival other than the green arrow/line is very helpful. It sounds like you have such a system built in.
Thanks guys.
