Solved - Game pauses every few seconds.....

Post by Crikey »

Hi guys

The game looks great. Much to be proud of. :)

Have a quick query.

Have installed to hard-disk.

Am playing the tutorial and I've noticed that the movement of the camera freezes every few seconds, for a second. It makes using any context sensitive menus tricky to say the least. Almost as if the game is accessing the hard drive before getting on with things.

I'll keep testing over the next few days in case some windows activity is getting in the way. Wouldn't surprise me.

Also, I'm the first to acknowledge I have an oldish rig

Vista
Nvidia Ge8600GT
6GB ram

But given it's just the tutorial these specs shouldn't be stretched. SoWGB plays fine btw.

There are quite a few pop ups in the tutorial, are you seeing those?

Yeah, the pop ups appear as expected. It's the movement phase that suffers. Ditto the 1st brigade scenario. I'll keep testing over next few days.

You might check your task manager and see how much memory you're using with the other programs running on the computer. If you are at full uniforms, we use close to 2Gb of RAM. So if the rest of your system is using a lot, then it's probably page swapping that's causing the pauses. You could try shutting everything else down or running on low uniforms to test the theory.

I have the same issue going on. I have adjusted my settings from the best to the lowest with no change. Every second or so I go from 36 fps to 1. It could be a memory issue for me I ran my task manager and I have 85 background processes running. My pc is new so I do not know what all this is running but is there any help for shutting things off I do not want to turn off something I need.

MY pc memory in normal use no game running is 1.6 GB in use with 6.3 GB available. When I am playing SOW Waterloo my memory is reading 4.8 GB available. I am not sure if this would give me the memory problem or not. I am having the lag in cycles though even in sandbox with brigade on brigade.

I know this seems silly, but have you restarted your PC recently? From personal experience, if I haven't rebooted in the while, I'll get a similar issue with my game, where it pauses intermittently.

Yes, I just did a restart. I am not sure the problem. I have 8.1 and have had no issues before. Waterloo simply will not run good. the cycles are bad as it runs 36 fps than boom drops to 1 fps. I have adjusted all my in game setting and have not noticed a difference.

For comparison I ran SOW Antietam this morning as Army command moved all Corps to attack the Confederates and ran at 22 fps with all setting maxed out. I ran Rome 2 with setting maxed out with all units at 300 strength and run in the 20 fps range.

The Waterloo brigade scenario I ran on max settings at 42 fps than it cycles about a minute into the scenario. It runs 42 to 2 fps about every second so its not playable.

Sandbox was the same.

You are running it in Win 7 compatibility mode as Administrator?

Starting to run out of things to try here. Perhaps try a full reinstall. It's possible something happened during the install that's causing the issue..
