HITS and the W key

Post by HoldTheLine »

I'm slowly trying to get to grips with HITS play.

One thing that has me stumped: we press the W key to move in the direction the commander's green arrow is pointed. But I have found that if I have forgotten to re-select myself, and have one of my units selected and I hit W, a courier dashes off, then the selected unit about faces and marches toward me. I've looked through the keyboard.csv file but can't find any explanation for a second use of the W key.

I guess this could be handy at times, but is there any way to turn off this behavior? Several times it's seriously disrupted my plans, my men must think me a little insecure to keep needing their company at crucial moments ;)

When HITSMove is active, WSAD moves the selected unit forward, so if you press W when a subordinate is selected that unit moves forward the specified distance.

I see, thanks. I'll have to experiment more, because I'm pretty sure that frequently instead of moving ahead, they about face. Is their direction of movement dependent upon which way my commander is facing maybe?

I always make sure I am selected before giving any orders so had not noticed. I will keep an eye out.

OK, I just found that when selected, a subordinate unit will move to and align with my own commander's green arrow. Interesting.
