1. DirectX 9c
2. Intel Core2 Duo
3. 2Gb RAM
4. 1Gb Harddrive space
5. 256Mb Video Card with DirectX 9 support
6. Video card should NOT be on board, but should be separate, no shared memory
7. Some sort of sound :)
8. Monitor, keyboard, and mouse :)
9. XP or Vista

Its good to see these system specs up on the main page.At present I have upgraded my computer about as best as i can as the graphics card is PCI and not great although I can run games like Medieval total war 2 on medium/high settings smoothly.
I hope to buy a new computer at some stage but my wife wont let me just yet  . Currently I have the following.

Pentium 4 CPU 2.80ghz XP
2.79ghz 2.00 Gb Ram
Nvidea Geforce 6200 256 mb card

I can run TC2M very smoothly with everything like draw distance on full and with high res units. Do you guys think I will be able to run Gettysburg on reasonably high settings. Words cannot express how much im looking forward to this game.

It makes a lot of sense to have it up there. I did this in response to a request that a received a little while back. As with previous versions, whether you can run on high or not will depend on the size of the battle. Many of the things that slow us down are not always drawing, but the combination of drawing with thinking for 10k men. Your system looks good though.

Currently, I have a Compaq Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.00GHZ, 1.99 GHZ, 2.00 GB of Ram. I do have some difficulty running TC2M if I try to add any of the features (such as flags, upgraded uniforms, etc.) or go to Large battles. Not sure that I can update much (for example computer will not accept more than 2 GB of Ram). So, it appears that I will end up with a newer computer this fall (thank goodness I can teach a class at the local college!)

With that in mind, and having the Recommended Specs, what would be the suggestions for "building" a new computer? In other words, should I go beyond the recommendations and, if so, what would be the "new" recommendations?

Thanks

Even though the game would still run fine on your machine (with graphic settings toned down), I would suggest at least 3 gigs of ram. I have found the game performance depends quite a bit on the combination of ram and processor. It runs well on my laptop with 3 gigs of ram, 512 on board graphics card, duel 2.0 processors, but I do have to tone down some of the settings on the bigger scenarios.

My MAJOR problem is understanding the terminology. For example, I have no idea what Intel Core2 Duo, DirectX 9c, etc. are! LOL Next step: Start hitting the internet to try and find out...or go to Best Buys and talk to a "Geek."

My goal is to acquire a computer that will handle all the "bells & whistles" without having to worry about a future need to "upgrade", which is probably impossible as some new B&W will undoubtedly appear! <S>

If you are looking for a computer, you should very easily be able to find those terms while shopping. That will help you know what to look for. But if you are buying a computer for the game, hold off until we are closer to the end. That list is just a preliminary list because people demanded it. We can make a better one later once we do some performance tests.

btw -

Intel Core2 Due
(that is the CPU, the brains of the computer)

DirectX 9C - that is software and can be installed on any windows computer so you don't have to shop for this.

I will be replacing my current computer which is primarily used for internet exploration, class preparations, emails, and gaming...so I guess I need an "all-purpose" system. Lot of help, eh? LOL

I did do some "exploration" on terms yesterday and learned a great deal including the many various Intel offerings that appear to go beyond the DuoCore2 (think that is right). But, as you suggest will hold off until GB is finalized...which will be ??? <S>

Thanks
