Maneuvers

Post by Amish John »

Do you know yet if you'll be expanding on the variety and accuracy of the maneuvers/drill of the infantry, artillery and/or cavalry or will we have pretty much what we had in TC2M?

If I remember correctly, one of the frequently repeated wishlist items was maneuvers that were executed more closely to real movements of the time as dictated by the period drill manuals. Three examples are:

1. Wheeling by the flank rather than on the center of the line.

2. Infantry deploying into line reflecting the \"by company into line\" command rather than the boys just running up to the line on either side of the colors.

3. Columns of four, rather than columns of three.

More accurate maneuvers would add significantly to the suspension of disbelief to those of us who are familiar with how troops are supposed to move in response to the various commands. Of course, maybe the percentage of people who buy the game that know how troops are actually supposed to move may be small, and then again maybe not.
You can get farther with a kind word and a gun than you can with a kind word alone.

I am sure that some of this will be addressed in this incarnation of the engine. It really depends on what we feel we need for the battle. I just finished coding some stuff that has not previously been in the engine :)
