Adding Trees...
Re: Adding Trees...
Jack – well this is sort of a hit and miss situation!
What will work for me, may not work for you and vise versa, it all depends on the graphic card and the processor.
How, I do it!
1) I start with a custom OOB, that I know that my computer and graphics card can handle.
2) Then, I start adding terrain to the map, and test it while having the units march around and fight!
3) If the FPS drops below 13 at a particular spot, I will go back and edit that part of the field. This usually requires editing a field, or thinning out the forest area a bit.
The only problem that I’m currently having is when the AI moves all of their regiments to the same general area, but the up-coming patch should solve that problem.
Tips
In the KS.csv – file that you have – open it and locate the woods that are using the grayscale colors of 30 and 40 – raise that number slightly in the D Column , and see if you see any results. You may have to repeat that process several times.
The higher the number the less terrain graphics the game will display!
Next, locate the grayscale colors 175 and 180 – raise those numbers slightly also in the D Column , this will thin out the wheat fields and the corn fields.
The snow would probably have to work like the rain-mod that was created, but this would probably affect the FPS more than the trees would.

The only true logic is that, there is no true logic!
Re: Adding Trees...
The map was made very sparse because we wanted a map that people with low end systems could play on with a usable frame rate. It also provides the option of somewhat larger OOBs as well for the rest of the players. The size is the same as the GB maps.Hey, you are inside of the loop, can you explain why the map was made so sparse, I can’t see any size difference from the 2_DD_RT map?The Kansas map was made sparse for a reason.

Understandable, thanks for the reply! The map was made very sparse because we wanted a map that people with low end systems could play on with a usable frame rate. It also provides the option of somewhat larger OOBs as well for the rest of the players. The size is the same as the GB maps.
