Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
Re: Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
Thanks so much! I was hoping to find a way to make something like this, but don't have the scenario crafting skills to achieve it yet. I like to see it carryover and see how it would all play out once the confederacy has the high ground or even part of the high ground. I was thinking of making a scenario using Longstreet's strategy of getting between Washington and the Union army, to simulate if it may have worked.

Yes, bring it on! We need more user made scenarios around here. Thanks so much! I was hoping to find a way to make something like this, but don't have the scenario crafting skills to achieve it yet. Of course myself, reb and others will be around to answer any questions you have.

Re: Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
Here's my After Action Report;
On the first day Heth's division pushed through Buford's cavalry fairly quickly although Buford counter attacked and delayed the march towards Gettysburg. In the North Ewell was hard pressed and pushed slowly, Rhodes and Ramseur were killed and their divisions were decimated just north of Oak Ridge in some hard fighting with the 11th corps who held the ridge, our 2nd corps was able to destroy the 11th corps who only had 30 men remaining by the end of the battle. Ewell lost nearly 90 percent of his corps fighting near Oak Ridge and trying to take cemetery hill.
His uphill struggle was not in vain as Pender's division came up early on the second day and captured the hill alongside what remained of our 2nd corps. Taking and securing the hill took most of the second day.
By the third day our entire army except Pickett was up defending cemetery hill. Surveying the enemy along the high ground on the ridge I contemplated attacking although we would be at equal advantage I had confidence my boys could carry the day. But then the enemy did something most unexpected, they attacked! First came Hancock's boy's of the 2nd corps. We already had our hands full in a tough fight with them when rushing up to try and break our left flank was the 6th corps! This bloody fighting lasted early morning till late noon. After the two corps of the enemy weakened, Meade ordered part of the 5th corps in for an extra push to take the hill from us. I ordered McClaws and part of Anderson's division to reinforce my weakened left which was still fighting remnants of the 6th corps. I then sent in Hood as a reserve on my center right. I ran up to the front lines to inspire my boys and was almost killed by a charging regiment of the enemy (one of Hancock's men looking to end the war early no doubt). By late afternoon I thought surely the enemy would have no more of this. Yet once again Hancock attacked, unwilling to surrender the hill his army had held the day before. After fighting a few more regiments he sent in, I thought surely now he has had enough. A staff officer signaled to me to look to the Taneytown Road, I took up my officer's glasses and my eyes went wide with dismay. Two more brigades of Hancock's division were coming up the road! I thought he had tasted enough defeat for one day, he is the most audacious man I've ever seen! I sent Robertson of Hood's division out to refuse the right, after some fighting with the first union brigade, Hancock decided not to send his beloved Irish brigade in to be slaughtered. The battle was over and we had won a minor victory, also a costly one. We have now brought the Union closer to our size and strength. After this battle we have roughly 29,000 men and the enemy has 32,000. Maybe it was bloody enough to get the the politicians in nearby Washington to sue for peace.
Side Notes:
-Off to the south west Pickett's division got caught up fighting cavalry and Garnett was killed (guess it was his destiny that day) in the skirmish. There was no clear winner by day's end.
-Our cavalry led by J.E.B. Stuart helped sweep up some of the enemy regiments around Culp's hill through some valiant charges.
-John F. Reynolds survived the battle.
-Final Score :12929 (I'd like to try again for major victory but need to rest up for that, trust me it will drain you mentally and your wrists and fingers will hurt, but it's worth it cause it probably plays out differently for everyone and there is many possibilities).
-I didn't run canister up to the line, I wanted it to be more realistic.
-It actually wasn't a bad attack for the Union considering they were on equal ground along the ridge and overall they have a larger army, plus it seems realistic they they would want to take it back from us, much like the back and forth on Culp's hill historically. I may not have kept the hill if I hadn't concentrated my army there. Now if I had Culp's hill and cemetary it would be interesting to see if they would still attack me.

Re: Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
Great AAR, really appreciated, and informative for future scenarios on this history and scale.
New edited version is up. I goofed on the courier messages when I combined down from 3 scenarios. Also found some minor bugs, and, the Major Victory criteria was wrong in the scenario config file...no way 5000 is a Major Victory.
Played all the way through using DRF and the FPS was acceptable throughout, least for me, averaged about 20 and rarely fell below 10.
Began with all the major settings on Best (except LOS on medium), but toward the end of the 1st day, when the action heated up, I started getting Runtime Errors - CTD (built in by Norb to halt play when individual PCs can't handle the settings). So, lowered the uniforms to Medium (best lower setting for uniforms IMO, you still get the variety, just not the high def crispness), and that solved the errors. Also gave the FPS a nice boost.
Let me know about errors or historical misses, want these scenarios to represent what SOWGB has the best to offer, both in entertainment and historical recreation...or adjustment.

Grateful for some help! I've downloaded into my Mods folder, activated, but the loading stops on GFX GS VirginiaState. Then ctd. I don't have a really powerful PC, but I can play large scenarios without too many problems.

You're using the DRF version, it can only be played along with the Bugles and Flags Mod. Look for the other 3Days scenario, same name, but without the DRF in the name.Grateful for some help! Re: Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
I do have DRF installed, but no joy with either either version - both crashed on loading. However, I tried lowering my graphic settings and it loaded successfully. Looking forward to trying it out.

Re: Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
A Heads-Up for everyone playing these scenarios - Enable autosave (I keep mine at 2 mins.) in the Options. This way, if you get a Runtime Error CTD, you can restart the autosave in the Saved Games section, and you can continue your quest from there. Unless you lower your settings after such a crash...I can guarantee it will happen again...

Re: Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours
It's been a while since I've actually been able to play and enjoy the game. Having a break from testing and development, I've been playing this scenario and it's fun stuff!
I'd like to hear how far some other folks have gotten.
If you don't want to spoil what's been happening with the scenario, don't read below (although knowing Rebbugler, the events are probably random anyway)
