Gettysburg 3Days in 7Hours

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

rclark, Longstreet was waiting for Law, and Oates being in Law's brigade...when he heard he might not have to fight...you get the idea.

The other thing is that Hood did get his flanking manover, the first two brigades heading straight for the far reaches of the Union flank (Law and Robertson). Had Robertson had all his regiments, he might have just overrun Devil's Den and broken the flank; and think, what if Vincent hadn't moved so quickly to LRT...Law would have been on it without a fight (including Oates, who as you say, didn't want to attack).

Although Hood probably would have liked to move farther south, his plan within his constraints could have worked...and his plan was the flank attack, with Benning and Anderson moving against the Peach Orchard, like he was instructed to (the original plan was all four of Hood's brigades going against the Peach Orchard).

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Yes I've always heard that Longstreet was waiting on Law to arrive. When he finally did arrive, Longstreet chose a long strenuous route to the Union position to help conceal his movements. Once his Corps finally reached the field, he also took a long time to line them up in position.

One might say that Longstreet should have attacked at first light like Lee ordered him to, regardless of being minus one brigade. But others say that he needed every man he could get and it didn't really matter when he attacked.

If only Pickett's division had been there..

Where do you guys hear that Lee ordered Longstreet to attack at first light on July 2nd?

My sources indicate that it wasn't until 9 or 10 that Lee had made up his mind and Johnston (a topographic engineeer on Lee's staff) came back from his scouting mission.

Longstreet can't have attacked at first light if he had no orders.

Yankee version is underway. Right now it's developing as the Reb version, historic entrances followed by initial movements, so, it's up to the player to decide wholly what the Union strategy will be. Unfortunately, the Rebs will be guided historically, and will probably be easy pickins by their easily predicted movements. Thus, a few of questions to the players:

Should Reb scripting be kept historic, or add random movements and entrances to the Rebel advance?

Should Buford's cavalry be restricted to 'fallback and retreat' modes, as historic, or give the player free reign?

Should Sickle's salient be scripted, or let the player set the Union line?

Also, any other preferences you Yankee folks can think of, right now I'm keeping all movements and placements historical but without objectives, so the player controls all his troops as they enter play. Speak now or accept 'as is' later. BTW, I will not consider objectives for this first design, they take way too long to test out and adjust, maybe down the line this type design can be considered, as it would demand historic play and positioning.

First - Thanks in advance for your work. As I'm still new (although thoroughly and repeatedly enjoying the Reb version - different strategies, approaches), please relegate my desires to a lower tier, as I'll happily defer to those here with more experience and expertise... that being said, I really enjoy the way the way your initial version unfolds with the largely historical entrances. If some variability of opposing force entry would be appropriate (and keep the gameplay reasonably sane), then I would vote yes. It would seem that simply adding this, would make this something all would be able to enjoy many, many times without getting bored with it. Regards all.

Hi, is there a way to do a new map with some breastworks- that would make it more authentic. I would like to do the scenes historically, and then see if CSA could have done better. Anyway, it brings the game to life. Take care, any improvements are appreciated- keeps the game fresh and interesting

Not yet. Map modding will be available one day though.
