Telescope / Binoculars

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Progress , I have figured out a way of calling-up, and shutting-down the binoculars on the toolbar when it is assigned to any leader.

Basically, the toolbar is assigned by three groups, Combat, Move, Orders, I can have the binoculars only assigned to say the Orders menu – and move all of the Orders to one of the other ones probably the Move \ Menu .

So, if you want the binoculars – you would just click the Orders Menu on the toolbar and the binoculars would appear and pan around .

It might be possible to have another item listed in this group – and to just assign the binoculars to that group instead of the mentioned three, but that’s just more work.

EDIT Post - It works better to just assign it to a new Group instead of one of the other three groups. That was pretty simple , a little bit too simple, now i'm confused about what to do next..

OK, now this should meet with RebBugler’s Professional Doctrine they are now assigned to a separate group which means that they can be opened \ panned \ closed at will.

See my post above for paint.net. It will open and edit .dds files. RebBugler uses it for all his mods.

I have it assigned to all of the Generals , by editing the gui file.

Yes, Photoshop does have the ability to make circles, I started on that last night, probably will finish that in the next several days.

Do a Google Search for a Photoshop DDS Plug-In.

Once you get the Plug-In - you need to make a file that will cover the entire screen, and the file has to be a blank dds file.

ok Davinci, great job - this mod will be a must have.

Is it the type of thing that can be added to existing mod toolbars or will there be mayhem/weeping gnashing of teeth.

Well, considering that it is your Mod you should be able to add it to any toolbar, with a few edits.

Basically, I just like trying to figure this stuff out, once that is done, I lose interest pretty quickly, so I'm mainly going to pass this Information on to someone else.

The key is several different steps, one is having a blank sheet that covers the screen, this might be different for each resolution, another idea that was provided to me by another modder (i.e...Crikey) would be to have different lens on some of the binoculars.

This would give some of the Officers a sort of glare effect, but not the others.

I still have to figure out a way of dealing with the zoom button, I want it to be all contained in closing the binoculars down. I have mine set up so that I can just click a button to return to the normal screen, but that is still another click of another button.

I'm sure that it can be done, I just have to think outside of the box, but hey two days ago, I didn't think that some of this could be done with the csv files.

pending.....thinking.....

Hey, how far have you gotten with the Photoshop Plugin’s?

Are you able to make a blank file that covers the entire screen?

I downloaded paintnet last night and it opened the binocular.dds fine - i didnt have any time to edit though unfortunately. I will tonight.

If i understand correctly...it should be easy. I need a black square 1680 x 1050, with the binocular holes centered in the middle of it? I'll have to scale the holes up or down depending on the size of the rectangle.

Was the scratched - grainy lens you made just an extra semi-transparent layer?
