ELPine Maps - Released

This is where our experts try to teach you the very flexible modding system for our previous release - SOW Gettysburg and its add-ons. It's powerful, but dangerous. Post your tips and your questions.

Dav,

Am having trouble with ELPine2. Troops are not finding and using the roads. The AI controlled troops are but not mine. Thoughts?

Jack B)
Personally I had no problem at all.

Greetings.

Davinci, I found on the mini map ELPine_1, that it has a road missing from it. Around the coordinates 316153-169763. It's on the main map, but not on the mini map. Just thought I would let you know.

perhaps the only thing I dislike on these maps are the minimaps. I am a fan of wasted look and papyre effects, or historical maps. The original Alpine minimap is an example.

1) Davinci, thanks for being mature about the feedback, it helps to know my gripes were not just ignored.

2) I think it’s actually a characteristic of the ground texture as all the vanilla maps fade to grey at distance on my PC,

1) The maps are being designed for the community, so I welcome all remarks pertaining to improving the maps. But, as stated above, the first maps may not be perfect, so bear with me on this.
2) I changed some of the properties settings with regard to the view distance; this is one of the larger maps, so I had to change some things around to include the grass and fields.
Davinci, This is outstanding! I was so trying to see all the familiar terrain from the Alpine map. You did so well It doesn't even come close to looking like the old Alpine map. Bravo my man,Bravo indeed. The ground looks so real. I just watched the troops move and forgot to set up my battle plan. It is like watching a movie.
Thanks, RDBoles !

Jack both maps have identical BMP files, that control the roads, so if you are having a problem with one, it should be the same problem on the other map.

If you can take a screenshot of exactly where on the map that you think the problem occurs, I can scan over the grayscale in that area, fairly quickly.

Drummerboy I believe that there are two-hidden-roads on both of the maps; one is in between the two fields, slightly across from the potato field.

The other one is roughly in the middle of the map going from west-to-east .

I did this due to the fact that during the Civil War, a lot of the maps didn’t have all of the roads listed.

I’ll try to work on that the next go-around!

Great!

I know it is cosmetic but the immersion is important.

So important that I often use a big old Antietam era map I printed myself while ingame.

DaV,

Okay, now the roads work. No clue as to what was going on. May have been a Mod Clash, although I turned off all of them, or so I thought. Anyway, good to go now.

Poland - ELpine2 could be Poland - flat, lots of creeks or small rivers, crappy roads, marshy. Perfect. Gunship, We need some Russians, stat. LOL! Actually, the Austrians invaded the Duchy of Warsaw, (Napoleon's Poland), during the 1809 War. Am researching the OOB as we speak for the Battle of Raszyn. The Poles were heavily outnumbered but won anyway. I have the numbers, but not the units. Nafzinger's OOB Finder won't download for me so I'll find it somewhere else. I always do.

Jack , OK, sometimes this may happen if there are errors in either the drills , or in the OOB file, that can affect the road-system.

But, it's also possible that there may be a error in the bmp file, I erased all of the middle-road-system, and re-did that file.

Most of the modders will do the road-system in different ways, which shows the power of Norb's game, different techniques will all work the same way!

Roads and Pathing: I have encountered strange errors that made no sense at the time as well. Seems that a dead end road will cause problems. The roads must all connect in a continious circuit, so no dead end road to a house or farm. This doesnt happen all the time though, but once in 10 run times I would get that error. I killed the dead end road and it never showed up again. Make no mistake, this road was connected to the main road it just dead ended 100 yards from the main road to a farm.

All , if anyone wants another JumpMap with the hidden roads and the fields showing, download this one below.

This will have to be a manual Install :

C:\NorbSoftDev\ScourgeofWar-Gettysburg\Mods\ELPine_1\Maps

If this is done correctly - it will ask you to over-write the previous ELPine_1_MM file...Click YES to overwrite.
